The only problem with MM.org is that I can't see my newest reviews. Gr...It's, like, frozen at my five reviews, and I can't see the sixth. Plus, if I login, I can't see the newest stories. It's just, like, frozen or something...Rwor! |

Yes, I know what everyone means. both are pretty poor.
I came to notice ff.net around '00, sorta stopped writing because of all the crap in '02, found mm.org, and switched in '03. Then I found even more crap and went back to ff.net just a month or two ago. I was surprised with all of the reviews, a few years ago it was rare to get a review. The whole idea with 'OMG SO COOL!!!!!!!!' reviews is reverse for me. I got those on mm.org. <_<
Also, I never knew taking NC17 down made such a big impact. All the fanfics I read (some of my own even) simply switched to R and no punishment of any kind followed. What every here has been saying is somewhat news to me.
Two more things before I get to quotes- I. Hate. The. Pop-ups. On. FFnet. My other problem with ff.net is they have all of the big shows and categories, but they don't have the small ones. Like for example, under anime they have things like Yu-gi-oh!, YYH, DBZ, IY, etc. etc. But they don't have many of the smaller categories which aren't as popular. If they had them, maybe some people could enjoy gunk-free reading.
(1) Wow. Maybe I'm one of the few lucky ones, but I can generally find good fanfiction. Then again, my fandom is small and avid, so that's not surprising really.
(2) I rather like FFN. While there is a ton of crap there, there are also some really, really good authors out there. There are several good-fic rec comms at livejournal, so searching through the dump isn't always the only option.
(3) Half the problem with all the badfic is that some things are more accessible than others. Anime fandoms are going to get loads of crap, because they have loads of fans. Books like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are going to have loads of crap because they have fans (and because they don't a different category in the movies section--more's the pity), but books like 1984 and obscurer things aren't going to have as much crap. It's all to do with the fans they have as well, and it's not always to do with age. A good lot of the fanfic writers whose stories I read are teenagers, and 13-15 and they write stories that haunt you, they're that good. Some of the awful fangirls out there are in their thirties or older and they write Mary Sues as if their live depended on it. There's less chance that older writers' fics will be riddled with basic mistakes, but that's not always the case.
(4) Sorry for ranting, but we younger fans aren't *always* bad.
(5) A fanfic filter would be the greatest thing. Then any fic that disregarded basic courtesy with no grammar, no spelling, OOC characters could be given pointers and there'd be so mcuh less crap out there. All the same, this site is pretty good with the fics, 'cause there's not so much attention on them. Yay, less crap!
~~
(1) Recently I have also been able to find good things. ^_^ My fandom is like that also. <_<
(2) Yup yup. The only thing is, soon the kids who write fanfiction at ages 7-11 will read their friends fics or really crappy ones and recomend it just because they think it was 'funny' or 'cute'. Then we have to deal with the junk they sent.
(3) Wow, I, like, agree with everything you say here. Misery loves company and the more the merrier is only in the eye of the beholder. Er, lets get rid of the often used quotes there. It means some people who just bubble about every supposed 'romantic scene' (things like 'they kissed. it felt good.'), of course would like more of their 'romantic scene's. The more there is, the more misery we have. And the more merriment for them. Also, the age difference can be important, but more than anything it would be the education and experience that come with age. -_-
(4) I know, the $hit the 16 and younger group gets is somewhat absurd. We can write well!
(5) I'm kinda new to fac, but I have a theory: places really shouldn't mix fanfiction and fanart. This complicates matters too much. For example, it takes more money to provide accessibility to fanfiction with fanart for internet users than it does for just one or the other (aka ff.net is good in this case because it doesn't give the fanart option). It takes even more time for monitors to check fanart and fanfiction than just fanart or fanfiction. This might be why mm.org doesn't hassle people- they don't have time from checking to see if everyone is in line to handling problems with the whole system. Which also leaves more room for error. <_<

I get around that problem by reviewing myself. It can be just a smiley face or saying thank you for reviewing. The sad thing is, for each new review you get, you have to review yourself to read it. The new fic thing is also a problem, but ff.net also has that. I have yet to find a loophole to get around it. I'll tell you if I do find one, LDD.

I remember I used to haunt the AOL boards. Now those SUCK! Bunch of scary people on those goddamn things.

You aren't kidding! They'll start hitting you up if you say you are 12+ age!! I know an eleven year old that boosts her self esteem by talking to a 27-year-old who thinks she is 17!!!
And sorry for getting off topic. I shall shut up now. |

Thanks, I'll make sure I check around and see if I can find a loophole myself. I've been too busy to really read any fanfictions, besides the ones I'm trying to critique.
Do you happen to be under the name VG Terra, I believe?...I think you reviewed one of my poems...Thanks! ^^ |

FAC is still, as far as I know, more fanart-centered, while at present, FAC fanfiction is almost an afterthought (a bit disappointing maybe, but true). _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

a fic of mine has been up on MM.org for a little less than a month (only by about a week), and has only gotten 1 review (from a friend).
the same fic has been up for two days on ff.net, and has already gotten 6 reviews, including 2 demands for a sequel.
O.o ok? |

same here >__< I cant see my newest reviews....This is no good...lol....but to tell the truth,i think i like fac more.More ppl review here and the system here is nice...Only one thing, fac doesn't have real rules for the fanfic side...Well,it is fanart-central anyway,so i think it's acceptable they focus on the fanart side more...And since it's a fanart-central, less ppl review on the fanfic section, don't you think so? _________________ ~Care to join me with my doujinshi projects, dearest Malaysia fellows?~ |

Mm-hm. I only got one review that wasn't Silver's proofreading on my story. But hey, it's fanart Central. It's practically perfect the way it is. |

i think i may like ff.net better now...it sucks that they banned nc-17 fics, but you get more comments.
<.< how do these reviewers expect me to write a sequel when both of the main characters in the fic are dead!? not much of a fic after that... |
Possibly a sequal about the aftermath...but that would be pushing the limit, I guess.

About the whole review yourself thing- you can just review a blank review and requst it to the admins to be taken down. When they want you to explain why, just say, "I accidently reviewed myself". Works like a charm everytime. ^_^ That way you won't look stupid to your readers- just to the admin.
Like they really care. <_< |

I just thanked all my reviewers and answered the questions they had, but I'll try that next time too! (If I ever get reviewed again <.<) *grumbles because of lack of reviews and the people who gave her s**t about not updating fast enough* |

Same thing here. But that's it. Just one. I'm lucky if I get two per chapter. Same thing for my other fics, too. And I even made a pairings Poll for that one. |
