Spoiler warning
I went and saw this movie yesterday. I really liked it- but my favorite character died- again. James D'arcy, or Father Francis, had such a horrible death. =( I mean... what was that? A knock on the head followed by a gutting? How sad. And... what was with Sarah at the end? Didn't her bones snap? I thought she died. Then she was alive, then she died again. Not to mention that Merrin was a priest again- and was still being all tender and such. And... he was chasing a little boy- heheh. lol. Not to offend any Catholics out there...
Oh, and concerning the 'R' rating, the language wasn't too bad, and there wasn't any nudity (i don't think), and their wasn't much violence either- aside from the hyenas... *shudder* I think it was mostly just the controversial images that were shown of upside down crosses, and still born babies with maggots all over them. Gah, I hate maggots.
In any case, I had just seen the first one, so that I would be up to date on things, and I think that they did a really good job in keeping up with the same sort of horror. Though, in the 1973 version, they didn't have all of those special effects, so it was even more scary... as I have been told, it looked more natural. The computer effects were on the cheesy side at times, like the hyenas. They looked like that furry thing in Star Wars Ep 2-- you know the one, that Anakin was riding, and then fell off of and played dead? Yeah. Aside from that, the plot was good, the music was suspenseful, and the horror was sustained throughout the movie. The message was also commendable. "Keep your faith, and you'll live" basically (except in Francis' case-- still pretty irked about that <_<). I can't say I have seen a better horror movie that was made in the past five years. But, that's just me.
