I dunno- we learned a lot about Styles in Mutiny, when he got all beat up- then in Loyalty when he couldn't write. yeah, they add comic relief- but it's important to keep those character real, too, which is why Jar Jar Binks (*shudder*) didn't have a big hit :/ He didn't have any depth-- and he was for little kids >.> I think we'll learn more about them ^.^

Perhaps, but I doubt if they will actually go into any sort of family background with them. Maybe it might mention Styles or Matthews having a son or something, but I don't think they would. In fact, I'm not so sure that they meant to develop Styles with the little tidbits thrown in about him. I think A&E was trying to bring back what the 1800s were like and show that not knowing how to write, and not knowing how to swim, were very common at the time, especially for a sailor. It also demonstrates the hopelessness of their situation. Not knowing how to write (could be symbolism for any other skill) basically crippled any sort of other job he might be able to get, as we saw in Loyalty. Styles had to work in a prison kitchen for his wages, but as soon as he heard rumors of war starting, he headed back to the navy.

I dunno, I suppose because they don't have them in the books that I've grown cynical... Doughty wasn't fighting with Styles in the books about a meal for the Bonapartes (infact, they only mentioned the couple and never went into it), he was fighting with the bosun for hitting him. Doughty forgot the rules of the ship and struck him back, because he thinks of himself as a gentleman. I dunno, there aren't too many subplots for the minor characters in the books.

*Shrug*

Just as a note- I'm not sure if any of that made sense. My head is all screwed up today... =/

And to keep this topic related, a list:

Top 5 on the hotness scale (for me):
1. Archie
2. Andre
3. Percy (almost tied for second...)
4. William
5. Frank the spaniard (aka the Johnny Depp look alike)

Top 5 on the sweetness scale:
1. Pellew (Surprise! lol)
2. Archie
3. William
4. Matthews
5. Bracegirdle

And another top 5-- Creepiness (whether for looks or behavior):
1. Bunting
2. Don Maserado
3. The guy at El Ferol that stares at Horatio longingly
4. The guy on the Renown that stared at Horatio longingly (shower scene)
5. Captain Keane/Sawyer...

Some memorable lines (in no particular order):
1. I will not live with injustice (Bunting)
2. It's the bloody Indie! (take your pic)
3. What will we do, sir? what will we do? (matthews)
4. GEEEEEEeeeeee (the noise Horatio makes when the french girl dies) (horatio)
5. I will not lose any more of this convoy to your dawdling, sir! (pellew)
6. Heh. (pellew)
7. Merry Christmas, sir. (William)
8. Don't let them see that it hurts. (Archie)
9. Pull yourself together, man. (pellew)
10. Snotty (Simpson =P )

ok, I'll stop now... but my all time favorite is: "FIYAH!" (take your pic again)

William so belongs at the top and you know it Wink But it's so funny how Bunting made the top of the creepy list and the top of the quotes lsit. If he wasn't such an annoying little >:/ I would ahve felt at least a little sorry for him. All thsoe glares and stuff-- and the alien face during the whipping scene, really jsut made me hate him :/ not to mention the over dramatic "I believe your duty......is fulfilled SIR: *dies*

Anyways, ten second treat for you, Nymph- Can you guess who it is?:

Oh! I know! I know!! It's William's MOM... Hehehehe. Sorry.

In any case, no, William is practically third. Percy and Andre really are tied on my list- but yeah. =P

Yeah, Bunting is pretty screwed up... but you have to remember... he was "HUNGRY!!!!!!"

That is so, so wrong. Don't make me break out the picture of Bush with a sad face =( it'll break your heart, and you'll feel so very guilty ^.^ 'hmph'

And yes, it's so very very sad that styles, matthes, and oldroyd are barely in the books-- that was the first reason I decided I didn't really want to read them :/ Then I wanted to because of all the William- and it being like a William-Archie mix character (so perfect ^.^) but then he goes away again =(

I think I must draw that picture of Oldroyd showing off his tummy, though >.> Oldroyd is just so great in general! He's so dense, but playful, and I love his accent, hehe:

"What's so funny, Oldroyd?" --- "Nuffin, sir"

But where did his earing go >.>? Oh yeah, and his ahir is a very prettiful color ^.^

Lol- he looks more like my dad than Bunting, and yeah- I guess I still feel a little sorry for him....but not much...since he was a coward and had it coming-- he reminds me of a goth...They think they have it so bad, when they don't-- and they get all depressed and annoying.. "What if there's no future to reclaim"...and arrogant "save me the wise words..."

Bunting is worthless :/ I wish he would have died and Finch would have lived-- so sad about Finch. He was so awesome in the book- from what you read me, lol >.>-- what a nut ^.^

I really need to get those books... <_< ! And watch the movies twenty times more (to catch up)...It's to bad, I went to the bookstore the other day, and asked the man there if they had Horatio Hornblower? He was like Horatio what? I just shook my head, and looked for them myself, nothing. The book stores aren't very good I guess, and I'll have to wait till I go over to San Diego. Sad *sniff* Until then I'm just going to listen to you two. ^_^

ok, I was going to share something really neat I found out about Barrett today, since I've started the fifth book in the M&C series... Had to take a break from HH. I read the Scarlet Pimpernel (really good if anyone is interested)...

Anyways, back to Barrett- I read something interesting, but I don't want to ruin anything for you... so yeah. <_< No soup for you.

As for Grapes of Wrath- I couldn't have spoiled that for you- I barely understood it. And you told me you weren't going to read the HH series, so I thought I would tell you the interesting facts. Crime and Punishment? I read you one scene =/ ...

All in all, the reason I tell you things is because you told me at the start you didn't want to read the books or I assumed you wouldn't. Bleh

Oh well, might as well ruin another little tidbit- add to the list. Barrett Bonden was born on the decks of the Indefatigable. Just thought that was neat.

I didn't want to read HH at first because you said it wasn't that good :/ then it got better :/ In any case, yeah-- Grapes of Wrath...I dunno what it's doing there- I'd never read that book, ever :/ Crime and Punishment-- you might ahve only read one chapter, but you told me what happened in the rest >.< in any case, yeah it's pretty much my fault- but I didn't think they'd be this hard to read after I knew what happened....I wa swrong-- I still ahve 20 pages left fo the first MAC. if I can just get past what I know-- and all these painting requests o.o then I can finally get back to reading >.<

and now I must push submit to see this business about Barrett o.o >.>

Edit: ah, but se-e that has nothing to do with the plot XD! That's really neat ^.^

One more bit about Crime and Punishement before I shove it in its grave for awhile- that one chapter didn't reveal what would happen, and I didn't tell you what would happen, remember? You got upset with me for not following up that investigation scene. I haven't told you any of the big details (except for the first ninety pages in which someone is murdered- but it basically tells you that on the back of the book). Whoo. ok, I'm done with that. But I just wanted you to know that I gave you no real information about Crime and Punishment.

Yes, I thought the comment about Barrett belonged here, since it had something to do with HH. The Indefatigable is so cool-- Being the birthplace of Mister Bonden and all...

Well, since my internet is down on my computer- I'm not sure how often I'll get to talk for awhile, and as for now, I must get going. Good bye.

To resurrect (so not going to look how to spell that right) I'd like to say that...Oldroyd is so frickin' cute :/ it's just not fair that you get blasted with horatio's stark white bum, get taunted by the extreme cuteness of William's sweet belly- when he's sick :/ and then you just abrely see Oldroyd's belly- and when Archie FOR ONCE isn't in his full deck-out uniform, he's al wrapped up in bloody bandages *huff puff* William has an amazing belly, but wouldn't it be great to see Archie's? -- oh I mean Surprised --- >.> *give shim back to the Shoe Queen and huggles the officer with none of the correct proportions ^.^

On a more intelligent note, though-- lol, I couldn't thinkof anythign to say for a moment, but then I remembered. Where was Pellew going again, Nymph? I'm wondering hwo they're going to tie it in that we'll see him again =) and when does William come back =( I hope he gets to be his lieutenant a while longer. I don't want him to succeed just yet. Aside from being the only thing keeping Horatio remotely sane, he isn't ready to be a captain >.> Poor, poor William....*smacks Hory a bit*
