X-Box 2 comes out next winter, assuming things stay on schedual. As of now, they are planning to have three versions. The first is the "consol light". its the X-box 2 minus some memory capabilities, meaning you'll need memory cards. Its cheaper, but not worth it in my opinion. The second is the full fledged X-Box 2, I think which will be released a month or so after the first version, and the one I plan to get. The third is still on the drawing board and is a full fledged computer. Whether or not it will be put into production remains to be seen. People believe that the X-Box 2 will perform better than the PS3 in terms of graphic capability and (hopefully) game quality.
Should you get an original X-Box? If you want. Its a good system. Price has gone down on it as well, and you could always buy used. _________________

I can't wait for a gaming system to be created that allows you to take a photo of yourself, scan it through, and your character will be an EXACT replica of you, and I don't mean like in Tony Hawk when your character looks all outlined. It'd be smooth as anything, like you were looking directly into a mirror. You'd essentially see yourself in the game.
You'd also watch yourself die with intense gore. Might help some people stay away from suicide.
But graphics that look as real as a photo with out heavily obvious CGI workings(outlines, blurred pixels, etc.)..... It's comin soon man. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

I wouldn't work properly. Rare had a plan to add it to perfect dark on the N64 in the early production stages, (simple photos pasted on a face) but it turned out to be completely unpractical and the results were very bad. And that was in the low polygon days too. Right now to make something like that, you would need incredibly detailed 3d models if you want to put lifelike textures on them. Bump maps would require knowledge of coding, so that's not going to happen either. Only if you are a genius at low poly 3d design you could make a modification for a pc game and add a model of yourself into it, but that's as close as it will ever be probably, and it's only reserved to the very few who know their way around 3d modelling AND game coding, AND have a lot of time to do a project like that. Keep in mind creating good 3d models, with proper animations and textures (and everything else depending on the game, physics sounds etc) takes a LOT of time and is a very creative process that can't be replaced by a machine. Not anytime soon anyway, maybe in 10 years or so it might become a better idea. But seriously, everybody has such dull faces, I wouldn't even want to play a game with a buttload of boring faces. |

I dont think it wouldnt be that complicated, well complicated yes but I mean if you scanned in a pic of urself into the game they could create programs to modify you face structure into a video game character. they could have codes for what to do with these kind of eyes, this kind of nose etc. i think it is very possible. plus the fact that video game companies back then weren't as sophistacated as we are now. |

You don't know what you are talking about. First of all, I was referring to what we can do today. In fact it would have been easier to do a couple of years ago, because people weren't expecting as good 3d models as they do now. You see, in order to make a picture look right in a game, you need an EXACT FIT on a 3d model. You simply can't have a program calculate all that for you. Besides, a simple photo is too little information anyway. Have you ever seen textures that are pasted on 3d models? They don't look like photos in the least. The closest thing to having yourself in a game, is creating a custom model yourself. But that takes a lot of expertise and time, you need to learn the game script and coding, you still have to make a custom texture, and 3d model, you possibly would have to animate the whole thing, if you make a 3d model for a modern game, you need to calculate physics of the body parts too etc etc etc |

Well, I guess the next best thing is the character customization they have in some games, like the new Tiger Woods game. You have this complete customization feature where you can alter the facial features, wieght, body type, everything. With practice, you can create pretty good characterizations of yourself. My friend made one, and it looked just like him. _________________
