Unfortunately they are able to. Anyone can go to just about any website and look at any material they want, wether old enough or not.

If your worried about your daughter looking at anything she shouldn't be then what you should do for her is get parental controls on your computer. They are very common nowadays and block such pages with images and such you would not wish your children to see.

FAC relies on it's users to be truthful and have good judgment. We can't really enforce it. The best we'd be able to do is go by profiles if users put their age in. And from my own experience, i can tell you right now it's easy enough to lie (i'm almost 19 now so don't worry, i don't need told off lol)

I'm sorry if thats not the answer you wanted to hear Sad

Yes R and NC-17 pictures are accessible. In a thumbnail view, they always appear as that red-on-black "Adult Content. Preview Locked" warning icon and when you click on the link a Javascript dialog box pops up warning you about it.

That's . . . pretty much all we can do about it. Requiring members to give their real age to determine what pics they can access would open up more potential problems, and there are already enough ways to get around the warning there is.

I understand about the way that the Rating system works, but when the kids have there age listed as 12 shouldn't there be a way to keep them from opening those files.... If some one lies about there age, well thats one thing, But when thay tell You that thay are 12 and You still let them into those pages , thats diffrent... Most of My Art is ment for an Older adult person... How about a page for Adult content seperit from the other pages, I would gladly post My Art there... As for My Daughter, I have blocks on Her computer so she can't see this stuff. But not all Parents do this... Thanks for the fed back... Raa.

It would be more accurate to have them enter their birthdate instead of their age, because then their age can be calculated automatically....

The whole thing's a rather murky issue because there's no way to truly verify that what a person enters in their profile is correct or not... nor is there a trustable authority across the 'Net to enforce such....

So maybe have an option to separate out the pictures according to rating then? That sounds easy enough. Like a little link on category listings saying "Show/Hide Adult Content" or something, and an extra parameter for the URL form to process it with (e.g., "rnc=on"). When off, R/NC-17 pics could simply be omitted from the listings, or when on, it would be included like things are currently (including the Adult Content warnings on thumbnail views).

And of course, regardless of suggested solution, denis'd be the one to have to build for it.

If they want to look at it, they will look at it and nothing I can do will stop them. Wheather here, or some hardcore porn site they acidentially (or intentially) find doing a search (many sites make fake redirection pages to get visitors).

Images on the site are rated. People either respect the ratings, or they dont. If they dont, they have no right to complain. Nor do their parents (not that I am accusing you of doing so) because their kids know what they are getting into and are doing so by their own choice.

I do plan to make a seporate site for adult content, but its no simple matter and is taking time. There are many issues with doing so.

As for ages in profiles at the moment, because there isn't any kind of age feild, there is no way for the site to process such information.

yes, that is the problem. I have a fulltime job and do some consulting and stuff on the side. I only have so much time to dedicated to development of FAC, espically when I have other site problems to deal with too. Many suggestions get made to the site (mostly by Strata) and most will be implimented. But I only have so much time, so most not anytime soon.

Best thing to do, is to put on age restrictions (like if they have AOL, certain sites can be blocked) like you had mentioned.
Either that or people monitor their kids' internet activity.

But whether it's on FAC or someone's personal art gallery site o.o they could get into that stuff even from the school library's computer if they want to.

Richard, I understand your concern. I help on the AP for the site, and yes I have two childern myself. one is a teen and I direct him not to look at any NC-17 works. I enforce artist to rate their works correctly, but that dosent stop minors from accessing it if they want. there may be coding to help lock out kids from looking at porn, violent, or adult material, but the best protection is parents themselves. if other parents are not controlling what their childern are doing, no one else really can. its really up to the individuals gardians to monitor them, not any other institutions. Denis dose have warnings that have to be read before accessing the material, but that doesnt mean it cant be accessed. this is an issue that definetly needs to be addressed in the indivduals homes.
