I did some browsing through the member list.

For the record, the number of pips and corresponding post count levels:

1st pip - 0
2nd pip - 10
3rd - 50
4th - 100
5th - 250
6th - 500
7th - 750
8th - 1,000
9th - 1,500
10th - 2,000
11th - 3,000

you don't get a custom name when you reach a certain number of posts or something...

i think i had almost 5550 posts when i got mine...?

oh, ok. It's just cause each time you raise a level you get a new name. Wonder what your name would be without a custom name at 13 bars...hmm..
