11? That's a bit young, all right...
First rule: The file must be less than 300kb in size. In the Windows Explorer, right-click on your image file and choose "Properties", then check how large the file is. If it's over 300kb, it's too large.
Second rule: The actual visual size ("dimensions") of the picture doesn't matter. At all. (Well, almost; larger dimensions always result in larger filesizes)
Images larger than 600 pixels wide will be resized automatically by FAC, so you don't have to worry about that.
Third rule: Bitmap-type images (BMP files) aren't allowed on FAC, make sure you convert to a compressed format like JPG/JPEG or GIF before uploading. To convert an image from one type to another, open the "Save As Type" dropdown list on the Save As dialog box and click the appropriate file format from the list. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

There are a few ways to reduce the filesize.
#1 - Make sure you choose the correct file format for saving your images, because some image formats have better compression than others. For example, an 800x600 BMP (bitmap) format image requires about 1300kb, whereas a typical 800x600 JPEG or GIF format image will require only about 100-200kb.
* JPEG's are a great format for scanned artwork, but they lose a small amount of iomage quality each time they are saved, so you don't use them while working on the image. Use it when you're done with the image.
* GIF's are best for lineart with simple (cel- ) shading and few colors. GIF's are inherently limited to a 256 color palette, so they're not that great for continuous tones like you'd get with scanned artwork.
#2 - Smaller dimensions = less image data = smaller filesize. If you reduce the image size/dimensions by half, this will tend to drop the filesize by half (often more).
#3 - Know your image sizes. If you have to resize the image smaller than about 500 pixels, then you're probably using the wrong image format for that image. As a good rule, try to size the image to about 600-800 pixels wide/high. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
