a difficult thing to do, i know, but i was watching High Fidelity with John Cusack, and he had "Top 5" lists for everything.

(in no particular order)
Incubus
Nirvana
Foo Fighters
Reel Big Fish
The Clash

plus many others...

I assume this is personal top 5, not top 5 as in talent or quality Razz In that case

Guns N' Roses
Poison
Motley Crue
AC/DC
Aerosmith

should add, people who just missed being on the list but are relatively even: Billy Idol, David Lee Roth/Van Halen, Nirvana, Ozzy, Faster Pussycat, Cinderella (the band, everyone always thinks I mean the disney movie Grr!), etc. etc.

yea- definitely personal. if it was in talent/quality, it might be easier to pick since there are less really talented musicians out there. great choices by the way Smile

"The only thing that makes Johnny Rzeznik a rock star is his fancy hair."

Sorry, had to add that quote. You know I dig the fact he looked like David Bowie in that one video.

Woo, go Bon Jovi (ok, I hate Jon, but I dig Richie...). It's My Life was kinda disappointing, though. And especially their new "This Left Feels Right". My cool Jersey boys really are gone. Sad Mainstream, "we really weren't a hair band..." bastards. Grr!

Ugh, that's the only reason I hate Bon Jovi now. I really like the beginning, but then they tried to evolve, which is fine, but they did it by becoming a frickin' boyband. So now all the fans they had hate them and the kids they were trying to play for think they're "ok". Yeah, that makes sense, Jon. I wouldn't even mind if they just went on with their mission to stay mainstream. It's their "we really weren't a hair band" that pisses me off. Just because it has negative things attached to it (for no reason at that) they deny it, which I find very funny considering all the videos, pictures, and songs that show otherwise...

Ah well, another decent one went down. Screw you, Jon.

haha yes that is very tru! but i still don't get why "hair band" has such a bad conotation. there may not be many left, but they're definitely better than all the rap stars with their corn rows and pop stars who can't make up their minds about their hair (does christina actually think she's goth because she has black tips?). o well... at least the flock of seagulls haircut isn't coming back....

Because those who saw the videos saw the look and thought that's all it was about. And the videos that became really popular were party rock like "Talk Dirty To Me", so everyone writes hair bands off as being "all about image". The image was/is fun, you morons! I'd much rather see this than this. It's fun to watch, and I don't know why people didn't and still don't get it. But it's their loss. (*I love the first picture. lots n' lots of bangles...*)

There are more hair bands still around than ya may think. Not very many still play big venues, though. Poison, Vince Neil, and Skid Row played big venues this summer. Warrant was still around until recently (Jani has iiiiissues). LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, Tuff, BulletBoys, Great White, Bang Tango, I think Stryper is, Black N Blue, Dangerous Toys, Sebastian Bach solo (but his band sucks), Enuff Z'Nuff, there are more but those're the ones I can think of going out recently.

Oh, and the new one, Metal Shop.

Ooooops, now that I've completely jacked this thread...uh...as you were. Wink

My favorites, in no particular order, are:

Dirty Vegas
Daft Punk
Aerosmith
Bare Naked Ladies
Linkin Park

I also love classical techno remixes, but that doesn't really count as a band or musician does it? ^^;;

And umm... yay! ^^ I'm not the only one who loves Daft Punk!
