I don't think one option is 'better' than the other. It all depends on your personal preference. For CG works, I usually draw and ink my picture on paper, then scan it and color it on the computer. This is because I feel I have much more control over my pencil than I have over the tablet. I find that when drawing with the tablet, I have to make several layers/copies in order to get everything to look right, and that bores me. My biggest difficulty lies in drawing straight lines. Also, prepping a hand-drawn picture for CG coloring is pretty easy, provided that you've done a good job on the inking and haven't made the paper all dirty.
I've recently been drawing straight from tablet because I don't have access to a scanner this summer, and that's really helped me to get better at controlling the tablet pen. I definitely had to start simple and work my way up - I couldn't draw people for a while, so I started out with fish. Like anything, drawing with a tablet takes practice. |
