Kenji Miyazawa (1896-1933), was a teacher, poet, author and Scientist. His writings reflected his deep understanding of the human soul and emotion. His writings were at times light hearted children's stories with layers of meaning beneath them; but instantly take a darker turn into stories that reflect real human emotion such as sadness and hatred. His poems were observations of nature and modern science, and sometimes sarcastic and surreal (See 'An opinion concerning a proposed national park site') looks into how people think and act.

Through his use of words, he could paint a beautiful, sad, disgusting, or intresting picture, never restricting himself and using words that felt right and made sense to him, making works like 'The last farewell'; a poem dedicated to his sister Toshiko (1898 - 1922) come alive with real pain and sadness that he felt.

I don't think that anyone could sucessfully copy his style of writing or use words in the ways that he did, I think he'll forever be considered one of the greatest modern geniuses in my book (and many other's, no doubt.).

If you've never read his work, I'd reccomend checking out 'Spring and Asura' for the best collection of his poems (though hard to get, and usually very pricey, It's worth it.).
