There's a "report this broken" link, but if there was one to report stolen images it would be easier than sending an email everytime there's a violation... and there are tons of violations. . . . .

I think that's a pretty good idea, actually. Kinda like the Report button in the forums.

More efficient than emails, anyway. In my opinion.

I'm more in favor of a general "Report Picture" button where you fill out a form and select the reason for why it's being reported.

Valid reasons for reporting a pic could include (in, say, a listbox):
- Broken (offsite) URL
- Picture sideways / linedpaper
- Misrated (such as full nudity or profanity in something labelled "G")
- General photography not allowed
- Official artwork, or a composite of
- Possibly stolen from another artist

However, we have to make a built-in system for this, and not just have it automatically file e-mails to support@fanart-central.net (which is precisely what happens when you fill out a new category request)

I like the "report picture" form option. Anything that will help to get rid of all the junk would work.

Question about the photos: what if an image is more than 50% photo? I asked about an image a year ago where someone had used a photo as a background and drew picture on top, which the mods had decided as acceptable, but there's this one member in particular who takes photos of her house and friends only to draw crappy 2 second MS Paint cartoon characters on top.

Depends on the tye of report. Sideways-pics, rating violations, and general photography (as well as some official artwork) don't require doing a pic-hunt like a case of art theft does.

Of course, if we also added the ability to silence certain users from being able to file reports... making false reports to the "police" is a matter not taken lightly, so if a user knowingly does just that, they should lose their ability to report pictures in a VERY quick fashion :woot:

Say, on a "Picture Reports" CP, you could have: option to sort report listings by type of report (see previous post) date of report, or pic in question; normal link (to a form) for reviewing the report's details and taking an appropriate action (with the appropriate hotlinks nearby, such as "delete picture" or "dismiss report"), along with a bulk option for dismissing multiple reports (since, when it's a genuine offense, you usually have multiple people noticing it); and, for cases of false-report abuse, an option on the report details form for silencing a user from making abuse reports in the future.

But for starters, how would this sound?
- A user can file only one abuse report per day
- A user can never file more than one abuse report on any single picture

The other day I went through the 'real people' catagory and found many pictures that didn't belong on the site at all.

I assume you'll be reporting them, then? Wink

That form is a rather good idea.

If it's a stolen picture, once that option is selected, perhaps a bar to enter a url or something should pop up? If the accuser can't supply a picture, then they can't use that option. That might help limit the amount of false reports for stolen pictures, anyway.

Sorry for the lack of coherency.

Er, yes.

Basic report form could look something like this:

- - - - -
Report Picture
To report a picture to FAC site staff, fill out the details below, then click 'Send Report'.

IMPORTANT! Filing a false or misleading report is strictly NOT TOLERATED. Failure to fill out this form correctly and accurately WILL result in your report being immediately disregarded by site staff, and can ALSO be punished by blocking you from filing any reports to site staff in the future.

Select the reason for this report:
( ) The image URL is broken. Select this option when you see a broken image icon in the place of the actual picture. Note, in some cases this can be caused by heavy traffic on the FAC server; if so, you may want to try again later before filing this report.
( ) The image is sideways. Select this if the artist did not rotate their drawing right-side up before submitting it to FAC, and the entire image appears to be sideways.
( ) The image is on lined paper. Select this if the artist did not draw their artwork on plain (non-lined paper), and if they made no attempt to clean up or erase the lines from their drawing.
( ) The image is not rated strongly enough. Select this if the artist did not assign an appropriate rating for content such as nudity or violence, or if they used profanity without issuing the "language" advisory (including the use of profanity in a picture's title field, which is never allowed).
( ) This is a general photograph, and not artist-drawn content. Photographs are allowed only when they are of an artist-made creation, such as a sculpture, craft items (which includes handmade costumes/cosplay outfits), or of drawings/paintings made by the artist. Other forms of photography, such as general portraiture and landscapes, as well as digital manipulations of such photographs, are not allowed.
( ) This is a copyrighted official work, and not artist-drawn content. Images of copyrighted official artwork (such as production art, screencaps, and official wallpapers), as well as collages/montages assembled from official artwork, are not allowed in an FAC user's gallery.
( ) This image belongs to somebody else, other than the artist who submitted it to FAC.

Details: Please provide further information to help site staff process this report in a timely manner. If you are reporting this picture because it is official art, or possibly stolen from another artist, then you MUST provide a URL to the official/original image; otherwise, please use the Artist Abuse Assistance section of the forums to help locate the original.
[ (textbox) ]

Submit: Verify that the above information is true and accurate, and if it is, you may file this report for site staff to review by clicking the button below.

[Send Report][/list:u]- - - - -

That looks like a pretty solid form to me.

How hard would it be to get that in?

It would be a page linked to from the art page? Because really big stuff...

It wouldn't be hard to implement the form (it would be a simple PHP script), it's the rest of it (i.e. abuse report CP and associated functions) that's the hurdle.
