...am I just paranoid? Or was this image ripped?
Exhibit A: Note the very peculiar grainy pattern in the picture. It looks suspiciously like the dithering process that publishers use when printing photographs in a magazine. This kind of quality loss, like, NEVER happens to normal scanned artwork or photography.
Exhibit B: Nothing else in the artist's gallery compares to the skill level required to paint something like this, nor (for that matter) are they even in the same media.
In other words, either I'm just jumping to conclusions, or the artist probably just made a high-resolution (about 300dpi) scan from a magazine photo. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

reminds me of pastel on mi-teint paper, it has that grainy texture built into it.
Non-anime pictures are harder to find, but I'll try. _________________ "Sarah's future makes me sad." - Benk |

You're right, it is stolen. It's called "By the Lily Pond." I found one version of the picture here. photopattern.com
It was also in a magazine in 1996. I think it was on a plate though. I hope this helps. |

- The two images do overlay perfectly, when scaled to the same size.
- I think brianhjh is right about the image texture -- the source image has that texture too, but it's a much finer grain.
- The odd highlight spots on the top corners are only in the image in question, not the source image.
- Apparently, there are several other paintings titled "By the Lily Pond" -- this confuses a good search.
I can't call a verdict on the subject. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Then I would call it stolen , you can see the texture of the canvas it was worked on , on both also if they overlap perfectly , i doubt someone could get it perfect from copyiong . |

There is a grain to both of them, but like I said, it's a much finer grain on the source link, than on the submission in question.
Are you sure you got the title correct? Hold on... let's keep searching....
www.photopattern.com/Ready_Made_Patterns.html
Just spotted it again, but this one's too small to be of any help.
beautifulitems.com/b/Boxes/By_The_Lily_Pond_Music_Box_Subscription_Plan_45520_t.jpg
It's shown as the cover of a music box... that will help... (adds "music box" to search query):

Apparently the original painter is Jurgen Scholz.
If we can, I'd like to rule out all reasonable alternatives before calling it "stolen".
(edit) ...or am I being TOO cautious? My sis pointed out some faint lines near the top-right area, those are crease-marks of the type you'd see on a cardboard box (such as a jigsaw puzzle) after considerable wear & tear.
A puzzle box, perhaps? It all seems to fall into place now. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Okay, I've filed an abuse report for this picture with all the appropriate links. Thanks for the help. ^_^ _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
