(i'm not sure how art theft works so...)
Online art theft is THE most serious, heinous, grievous crime that can ever be committed on an Internet art site. Art theft means that you uploaded an image to your account which is actually the creation and property of someone else.
Hence the term, "art theft", because by uploading someone else's picture to your account (even if you do not specifically claim that you drew it -- people already assume that you created it), you are stealing the credit for someone else's work, someone else's time, blood, sweat, and tears.
Art theft comes in many flavors, such as:
- Uploading official screencaps from video games, TV, cartoons or anime (which are the property of the studio)
- Uploading official concept/production art for videogames, TV, manga pages, magazines, etc.
- Uploading any image which was previously published by a different artist -- which includes attempting to erase any copyrights/watermarks the original artist or site put on the image (this only makes it more obvious the image is not yours)
But all of them have one thing in common: you are uploading an image that you cannot claim copyright over, because the image belongs to someone else. It's an offense SECOND TO NONE, meaning that if you're guilty, you get banned on sight, your gallery (and/or account itself) completely erased.
It is NOT possible to recover what was deleted.
Think for a moment. How would YOU feel if you spent five hours on a painting, uploaded it to your personal account, then somebody else uploaded it to their own account and say that they painted it? I dunno about you, but I'd probably feel like organizing a lynch mob and hanging the fool.
Since the crime and punishment are so extreme, we do not ban lightly. We investigate the case, we search out where the original image might be, and only if we find the original do we actually punish the thief.
In short, if your gallery was deleted because of theft, this means that we found the originals, by the original artist, on the original site. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
