Fanfic Ratings

Yup, I know that the fanfic system has the 'new' rating system, which works with the individual content, like yaoi/shonen-ai or spoilers or language and such, and that works very well with the fanfics, I don't have a problem with that.

But the old system, with the G and PG and R and somesuch, I think we should have those for the fanfic section as well. I mean, it's good to know the content, but the old rating will tell you how bad it is; I have seen stories with just one or two cuss words in an otherwise mild piece that makes it rated for language, and if people are sorting through fics with the system, it won't help them much.

Would it be a huge problem to put in the old system for the fanfics? Because if not, then I think that the old rating system would be very, very helpful for the fanfic users out there.

Just a suggestion.

I can predict denis's answer to this one.

- Not enough time to implement on the current FAC layout
- Not worth implementing since we're designing a new layout anyway
- New layout has a superior rating system.

I think the reason why it's called the "old" and "new" system is that the G~NC17 system was implemented first, and then later supplemented with the individual content advisories.

However, since the G~NC17 system is trademarked by the MPAA (and used exclusively for [i]films[/i]), we will be implementing a different rating system in the future.

Basically, the planned rating system changes each advisory from a mere on/off into an individual G~NC17 type range for that particular kind of content. This will make it possible to discern between the different levels of, say, violence or sexual content.

Oh, alrighty then, I guess that's okay, though I personally think the G-NC-17 rating's easier and rather 'universal'...

Any idea when the new 'layout' and all will be up?? Can't help but be curious.

New layout, by my estimation (and not counting bugs/bugfixes) is maybe 60% complete. It all depends on how much time cstdenis has to put work into it....

No specific time frame or "release date" set so far.

Yeah, but we're not [i]legally[/i] allowed to use it, so we have to come up with something else.
