What program do you use for your scanner? (We have to know, otherwise we won't be able to give you much help)

Hmmm... I've never heard of it, so I can't give you much on the way of instructions. Reason why I asked is because, on the chance that any one of us has the same scanning program, we'll be able to tell you exactly what to do about it.

I'm curious though, what other image editing aka photoshop programs do you have? Most have an "Acquire" command that calls the scanner program so that you can scan an image into photoshop, and then do whatever you want with it.

I have an HP scanner, which comes with HP PresicionScan Pro, and while I can run PrecisionScan all by itself, I find it much easier to use when I call it from within photoshop.

I did a search, and apparently Canon has no online help for the software. That program's got to have a Help menu though, try looking through its Help section in regards to scanning/saving images....

If you can't scan into gif or jpg, scan into somthing else (like bmp) then open it in photoshop and save it as a gif or jpeg.
