Tomorrow, is five years since the genius of Douglas Adams, died, mosr famous for his hit-series, The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.
I'm, only on the second book, The Resturanut At the End of The universe, but have loved it so much so far. The writing style...I get in trouble for snorting out loud in silent reading.
Discuss the genius. Discuss the guide. The towels. Because I'm ready. I know where my towel is. Don't mess.

Our robotics team the Miracle Workerz actually has "Miracle Towels" in honor of the amazing books. I've actually only seen the movie, my boyfriend's lending me his books over the summer, I've had no time to read anything all school year. T_T
I'm curious as to what it would look like if they made the rest of the series into movies....I don't think anything could beat the books (since movies rarely do and I've heard this didn't do it justice) but it would be funny to see. |

I haven't actually read the books by him. How are they? I've heard nothing but good news about them. |

They're awesome. The books are incredible, he takes things that probably would'nt make you snort, and makes them funny.
I can't remeber it very well, but at one point Arthur meets "Slartibartfast"
Arthur: Whats you're name
Slarty: My name is not important
(Several paragraphs later)
Arthur: Slartibartfast? What kind oif a name is that?
Slarty: I told you my name wasn't important.
 And it only gets better. And the names, oh, the names! And Marvin, the "Paranoid Android". I've said to much already. Read, I command thee, READ! _________________ I came

ah, I love this series, I'm on the third, Life the Universe and Everything. "They hovered in the air exactly the way bricks don't" Genius...
I love the Part about the knack of flying
"There is an art, more like a knack to flying. You simply throw yourself at the ground, and miss." |

The books are the source of some of my favorite comments.
-- 42
-- God, babelfish, and zebra crossings
-- flying
-- SEP fields
The books are simply excellent (even if fenchurch was boring as hell, and the ending was...)
Anyone read that short story about Zaphod and those clones he was transporting? I don't quite get the point of that.

Fenchurch.
"So Long" is radically different from the other books. There is a lot less humor, the romantic aspect feels forced, and fenchurch is incredibly boring. The only worthwhile scene in the book was the last, where the signifance of "42" was revealed, and it wasn't that good either, since it seemed tacked on.
The book was so bad that Adams reversed nearly everything he said in it in the next book. You can simply delete the book and the story wouldn't change much |
