I don't now if this is some crude attempt at sponsoring this site through advertizing, but I can't seem to go anywhere in FAC without seeing those bright blue, double underlined links. This is just my opinion, but I find this new "feature" annoying and misleading because it makes completely unrelated links and makes people focus too much on just those words. Anyone know what is going on here?

Already been addressed. They're annoying as hell, and Denis mentioned them being an experiment. They may or may not stay. But, FAC needs a way to support itself.

Preferably they'll go. D:

I hope they go as well, as I'd rather have small banner ads over these annoying blue link ads.

All I can say is thank goodness for the Adblock plugin for Firefox.

Yup, those links are real annoying... can't FAC have some kind of donation service?? Very Happy It works for other sites, so I wondered...
Then again, with a site mainly full of kiddies, I doubt there'll be a lot of people to donate...

I've also heard of webtrafficking, and could that work? Like, on a link on the mainpage, or a seperate page to help support FAC, somewhere to click to stormtraffic or whatnot? Smile

Anything we can do [almost XD] FAC members will support, if it's easy to do.

But seriously, those links are just annoying. And the bubble things they open up when you scroll over them?? Really pissing me off. >>;

We're discussing options. One idea is to add various "sponsored links" around the site, like those Amazon.com links we used to have in certain galleries and so forth.

1. those links so far do more than amazon ever did before (the new stuff may work better). They will probely not directly replace these text links
2. FAC had donations for like a year. Only 2 people ever donated -- and one was a site helper.
3. The links formatting (color and some popup formatting) can be changed if anyone things there is a better formatting for it.
4. In the future they will likely be altered to be in a more limited location (like picture description and keywords)

:snort: Oh, well, that kinda pushes out that option. XD Seriously though??? Man, that's kinda sad... XD

Huh. And yes, the links really do pop out and annoy the hell outta people. I guess an underline would be okay, but 2?? annoying. And the bright blue... really stands out. And the bubble. Ooh, the bubble.
Are you sure we can't make the bubble just one of the normal small yellow tags that appear when you move your cursor/mouse over a link or whatnot? :/

I actually prefer these blue underlined words :X Some of the advertisments at the top of the pages used to stuff up my internet (probably because i use a mac and it didn't support the java or something?) it would cause the mouse to not work and i was unable to do anything but continue to refresh using the keyboard until eventually a new add would pop up, did anyone else with a mac have these problems? But as mac users are a tiny portion of people here i spose banners would be better :\ But whatever helps the site keep up is most imortant so i support whatever decision and outcome the admin comes up with. Very Happy

That's a first. The thing that bugs me about the advertisements is how it applies the links just as the page has finished loading -- on a long page, that causes some lag.

Now it's gone too far! Those annoying links are messing up my newest story. There are many stories that have color-coded dialogue, and their are still going to be stories in the future that will do so to. If this continues, we're just going to be openning a never -ending "can of worms" of complaints. Please keep those links out of FAC stories! Why don't you have the links in several selected areas (not in stories), and just have the links deactivate after a selected amount of time... if thats possible I mean.

I can customize the color of the links and I think the background color of the bubble but they do need to stand out because it would be misleading if they looked like normal links and they need to get clicks to make FAC money. If people dont notice them they wont get clicks.

Today I plan to use some special div tags to better control where the ads appear in the text. That should fix the speed problem on large pages.

because the links are underlined, they shouldn't really mess with the stories too much, but I think I'll take them out of stories anyway.

I heard back from the advertiser today, they have released a new version that should help with the speed problems.
