I have started this topic to try to prove my friend wrong, it is his firm belief that the Flood in Halo do not think for themselves. I oppose him and think that they either have individual intelegence (like humans) or a hive mind system (like Hunters) If you don't know what a hive mind is then its a intelegence that extends its body into others, so one mind controls many bodies (Gravemind is possibly the Flood mind).
My reasons for believing this is as follows:
1. Why else have a Brain form of Flood but to collect data for the hive mind?
2. The Flood only attack en-masse because with their sheer numbers they can afford to, there are trillions of them!
3. Who else could Gravemind be?
4. The Flood do show some basis of teamwork, carrying others in dropships (seen in Halo 2) assisting others in combat.
5. In Halo Combat Evolved (Halo 1) the Covenant are scared that a spaceship the Flood have taken over will be fixed by the Flood then used to leave Halo, in fact they sent a strike team to try to deal with them!
6. What is the likelyhood the Captain Keyes of all people would be the only one turned into Brain Form? This proves that there is some form of communication between the Flood
7. To get into the Pillar of Autumn when it was downed Flood forms hid in boxes, if they had no intellegence and only hunger moved them then they simply would have made a fronal assault.

3. Who else could Gravemind be?gravemind is a hyper evolved form of the flood
2. The Flood only attack en-masse because with their sheer numbers they can afford to, there are trillions of them
that just means that have a pack institinct like wolves
4. The Flood do show some basis of teamwork, carrying others in dropships (seen in Halo 2) assisting others in combat.
see the aformentioned pack instinct or its just radonm attacking for the greater good
6. What is the likelyhood the Captain Keyes of all people would be the only one turned into Brain Form? This proves that there is some form of communication between the Flood
that is probably the form in which they form bodies i.e. a cocoon?
7. To get into the Pillar of Autumn when it was downed Flood forms hid in boxes, if they had no intellegence and only hunger moved them then they simply would have made a fronal assault
the infection forms were probably sealed in the boxes via mechanical packing
1. Why else have a Brain form of Flood but to collect data for the hive mind? see number 6
5. In Halo Combat Evolved (Halo 1) the Covenant are scared that a spaceship the Flood have taken over will be fixed by the Flood then used to leave Halo, in fact they sent a strike team to try to deal with them!
this may be a valid point but onlyy shows imative behavior like the pack instinct

I always believed that The Flood behave like bees in a beehive.. or a much better example, like the bugs in the Starship Troopers. They work as a team so they all obviously need a brain to do that, but they work towards one goal, and that's to collect information for the brain bug... in Halo's case, the Brain Form. |

Sorry budakiman but I can't really see an arguement there, really, can you make it more clear? On the topic of wolf instincts, have you ever heard of wolves fixing and flying a working spaceship? No, neither have I. Random attacking cannot explain the ability of them to work together take you on you again and again and again and again. This does seem like wolf mentality but wolves also have a clan leader, why not the flood too? The 'brain form' that has taken on Keyes is said to be 'staring intently at the computer screen' (Halo: The Flood) it has no defensive properties, why? Beacuse the flood mind will use combat forms to protect it. Why weren't they in the room with the flood form? I don't completely know but I believe that the flood mind might not have complete control over the combat forms and they have used natural instinct to search a little for food. Oh and before I forget, RvB does rock! _________________ Please vist my friends site: www.freewebs.com/thetteam for hilariousness...ness... whatever
