I recently got a brand new acoustic guitar
the problem is I don't know how to play it, and the pick guard has been on back order for 3 months.
I wanted to know if there was a site out there where I can get the basics and play with out the pick. _________________ Remember this everyone and everything has a time to die

Uh...you don't need a pickguard to play an acoustic. If you're worruied about ruining the finish, that's gonna happen anyways.
You use you fingers, mainly your middle on the higher pitched string and your thumb on the lower. For example, B = middle and A = thumb.
Ultimate Guitar should help you a bit. |

do you want to play acoustic slow stuff with arpegios or hard/heavy stuff?
depending on what you want the technique you need is different.... and for everyone out there, hard stuff can be played on an acoustic, i've done it.... _________________

rock is a very wide term but i suppose hard stuff..... learn power chords, base of all rock songs..... you put your index finger on 1 fret on the 6th string and your ring and pinky fingers 2 frets higher on the 5th and 4th strings...
