Changing the Top 5 Submissions

How are the Top 5 Submissions on your profile chosen? Are they the ones with the most favourites or comments? And can you change them? If so, how?

I'm pretty sure that highest priority is given to one with most favorites, then comments. Denis mentioned this somewhere else...
Kinda hard to change it. Ask ppl to unfav/fav your pic?? Confused

They are determined by multiple factors such as faves, comments and views. You can not control them directly -- but you can choose a single one to be featured.

+Saru-chan[/quote]I just went and deleted the ones that were listed as my top5 because they were my oldest submissions and they only got a lot of comments and favs bc it was stuff like Sesshoumaru and Co. T'was annoying to see people only commenting on my old art despite the Newest-oldest feature.

I'm not on DA so I wouldn't know about that. It would be nice for really really old stuff. I just wish people would give useful comments instead of just "OMG KAWAIIIIII *favs*" I rarely get comments so of course I'm happy to get them then my buzz is killed when I see something completly useless.

A thing I'd really like to see is the ability for non-members to comment (like on Elfwood) but the last time I suggested that it was thrown down immediately with the only reason being "Elfwood has a lot of problems" Blah

Guest comments used to be allowed long ago, but it had to be removed due to abuse.

Hm.. . figured that'd be a risk. Well what about for sometime in the future (no need for it to be near) have some sort of thing where people can make accounts specifically for commenting? A lot of people I know would comment because they are good at evaluating art but do not have the skill for making the art itself, and so won't come here. I'm sure a lot of people know someone like that.

Many people have accounts only for looking at art and commenting.

Creation of accounts is very easy, because the only required feilds are username, password, email, and a few of the prefrences -- everything else is optional.

Or maybe just plain offering a sort option for the top 5 such as newest, most commented, most faved, etc., and let the user specify a default in their profile options.

I like this idea. :/ I'd rather my profile [i]not[/i] be based on how popualr I am with other users, since my popularity unfortunately seems to lie in Yuugiou fanart I did back in 9th grade. :/

Ugh, I have the exact problem, I posted these notes on them :

Ok, I'd just like to say that even though this is one of my most favorited pieces, it's one the first pictures that I ever did, which disappoints me greatly, my newer work has no favs what so ever, nor comments. Please take the time to look at my newer pieces as opposed to this, and while I love constructive crit. on my work, I don't need it on a picture I did 4+ years ago.
However, I still love and appreciate all favorites and comments on my old work. Thanks, and sorry if I sound bitter, I'm not. ^.^

it actually has helped a bit. I think that the current system is pretty good, because, if your newer work is really good, people will fav it more (hopefully!) But definately don't have it decided by the number of views...beacuse then, everyones old work will probably be up there for sure. If it comes down to a tie, it should be by comments instead.

That is a nice idea. It's really hard to tell, 'cuz like everyone's been saying, people don't always comment on/fav the best pics by the artist's opinion. Of course, whether that's by favs or comments, it wouldn't really matter then, but indeed, perhaps most recent 5 would be a nice idea.
Then again, it might seem a bit pointless, as they'll be the same first row for the gallery.

And were you to make this a personal selction by the artist, well then, it's no better than a featured pic. :/

I meant more like, the artist could themselves choose whether to display their most faved/commented/viewed/recent/etc. on their user profile page.

There's nothing [i]wrong[/i] with displaying most recent pics on profile pages -- dA and SA do that by default.
