I was just wondering...when we submit pictures and stories here at FAC, are they copyrighted to the user who submitted it?
If so shouldn't it say that on the page where people see it?

( Sorry, I was just wondering. )

FAC does not claim a copyright over any artwork you submit, only a permission to use it (otherwise known as a "license") for display in your FAC gallery.

So, of course, you keep a copyright over the creation of the piece.

So it pretty much means, like, lets say I drew some Pokemon. Then that means the art piece is copyright to me for drawing it, but Pokemon is still copyright b Nintendo, etc. I pretty much understand that part, which of course is no argument to me.

But what if the characters were created by me? Like, just recently, I created a character and named it Shirofu/Shirofu-san (an original character I made up) Would the art/story and the characters belong to me if they arent fancharacters?

Does that mean we have copyrights on our own work?
I thought you had to buy a copyright or something to protect your work.

If you're really worried about getting copyrights, you can always mail your work to yourself. According to a teacher I talked to, that creates a copyright on your work.

Mail it to yourself?
How does that make a copyright?

( Sorry, I get confused easily on things like this. )

That way it is dated, so if someone else says "ooh! Lookie what I drew!" you have that e-mail and you can say "well I drew it first!" (except more angry or sophisticated) You can also do the same thing with normal mail, the postmark puts a date on it. Yay for cheep copyrighting!

It is called the "poor man's copyright" because as long as the mailed package is left sealed (unopened), its date of postage identifies when it went through the P.O. and, therefore, proof that it has existed for at least that long.

Although last I heard, it isn't as reliable as it used to be.
