I just saw PotC II for the first time two weeks ago, and it got me thinking...

Anyhow, in the movies the characters Jack, Will, and Elizabeth are all about the same age, right? Just to throw out a number, let's say they're in they're in their late twenties by the second movie. I'm assuming there is a about a year or less gap between the first and second movie, but at least we know that it wasn't a long enough period of time for anything substantial to happen.

Okay, so in the very beginning of the first movie Will and Elizabeth are shown as kids, like 13 or something. Will has the Aztec gold around his neck that his dad put on him. The Pearl's crew found the gold after they marooned Jack on the island, which is why Jack never had any gold and thus wasn't cursed. The crew of the Pearl didn't find that last piece of gold until years later. I'm going to say it took them about a dozen years considering how much Will and Elizabeth aged over that time. That would put the couple at about 26 years old-ish. Sounds about right, eh?

Alright, so we find out in the second movie that Jack sold his soul to Davy Jones to be the captain of the Black Pearl for 13 years. If the crew kicked him off shortly after he became captain, that gives them time to find the gold, figure out they don't want it anymore, and spend 12 years looking for the final piece, thus endding the first movie. A year later (13 years after Jack first became the Pearl's captain), Davy Jones want's his end of the bargin. This is all making sense, right? Not too confusing?

I'm assuming that the damned and the cursed are in a semi-immortal state that doesn't let them age like normal humans, so the time that the Pearl's crew was cursed I belive that they all stayed the same age, and the same goes for Will's dad aboard the Flying Duchman.

To recap, Jack is about the same age as Will, who was wearing the Aztec gold when he was young. The gold was found after Jack was marooned, so Jack must have been just a little boy when he bacame the Pearl's captain, and after thirteen years he has to pay for it, which would be during the present time of the second movie.

Basically, my point is that Jack was just a kid when he was first captain.

Well... I think I've got to mention that Jack is older than Will... in PotC 1 he's most probably around ~40

Uh yeah, that's what I got from it too...

I think Elizabeth and Will are supposed to be in their early twenties, were they older Elizabeth would have long since been married off to a high-society fellow.

I've never seen it implied that Jack is supposed to be the same age as the others (and even in real life Johnny is hitting his mid-forties), it seems far more likely that he's is almost old enough to be their father. If Will and Elizabeth are in their early twenties and Jack is somewhere around 40, that would put nearly twenty years between them.

I know that he is a lot older in real life, so I tried researching the age of his character, but no luck. Again, it's just a theory. It's kind of hard to tell because even though he got to close for comfort with Elizabeth in PotC2, it wasn't uncommon at the time for 40 year old men to marry girls as young as 12. (At least I learned that in class a few years back.)

Mmm, I have to admit that I also thought that Jack was several years older than Will and Elizabeth. At least ten.

Kudos for getting the relatively entertaining image of kid!Cap'n Jack Sparrow, though.

...

...Oh, right. I'm pretty sure that Disney HAS put out a couple short novels for younger kids detailing the life of a very young Jack Sparrow. Does this stuff count as canon material? :X

DID EVERYONE KNOW THE MONKEY STEALS THE COIN AT THE END OF THE FIRST MOVIE BUT ME????? i just found out while watching it with my teacher about a week ago! T.T

I have been wondering why he's undead since I saw the second one last summer. I can't believe I didn't catch that! Shocked

it's right after the credits, and the credits are sooooo long! Apparently most of the kids i watched it with watched the ENTIRE credits and found out... oO''
