- I uploaded a fanfiction, but when I try to view it, all I see is a blank page! Where did it go?

- When I try to upload a fanfiction, all I get is an error message -- The story you submitted is blank or could not be converted. Try submitting again in another format. What does this mean?

Both of these questions are related, and have been asked many, many times.

While you may submit stories and writing to FAC in various file formats such as plain-text, Rich Text (RTF), HTML, and Microsoft Word document, support for these formats varies, and some of FAC's file converters (particularly the MS Word filter) have some internal bugs left for cstdenis to iron out.

The solution to this problem is to convert your stories/chapters to a different file format, and then try again.

1 - Open the chapter/story in your word processor.

2 - Select the "Save As..." command from the File menu.

3 - Near the bottom of the Save As dialog box is a dropdown list called "Save As Type". Click on it to open a list of your word processor's supported file formats.

4 - Select a different file format from the list. Look for HTML (also called "Web Page") and "Rich Text" options -- these are generally the most reliable when uploading to FAC.

5 - Resubmit the story to FAC. If it is still rejected, you can save your chapter/story as plain-text (ANSI/ASCII or "MS-DOS Format" plaintext) and upload that to FAC. Be aware that by converting a chapter/story to plain-text you will also lose all special formatting (such as bold and italics).

6 - E-mail a copy of your original chapter/story -- the one that did not upload properly -- to cstdenis@ctgameinfo.com , so that cstdenis can diagnose the problem and improve support for uploading stories in the future.

i've been trying to upload my story for the past two hours or so. i've tried everything i can think of, and checked here for help. i've saved it to various file formats, and they do not work. I've saved it as a Word Document and it's done this(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v316/ChibiFairyo3/storySS.jpg ignore the text, i resized the screenshot), uploading it in Web Page format results in question marks replacing parentheses and apostrophes, saving it as a Text Only or Text Only with Line Breaks results in all the paragraph spaces being erased, and saving it a Rich Text Format..well, FAC says the format is not supported. i am really frustrated here and i'd really, really appreciate your help.

I can't see mine or anyone else's since the move! Nor can I see the stories in the category archives. What's going on?

When I try to put up my fanfictions now, after the move, if I use the first option then it all runs together as one paragraph and refuses to skip spaces. If I use the second option, then it squishes itself down into font so tiny you couldn't read it with a microscope. If I use the last option and upload it from my computer, it appears with vast gaps between paragraphs and changes all the apostrophes to boxes. Please, help.

Mine will post, I can see them after I add a new story. But since the move, they will dissapear. They're not on my gallery. And when I try to search for it, it's nowhere to be found.

The same is happening to me with my first story ever. My story is not getting any views either because they can't find it. It's not on my gallery either and stories are my only option since I can't scan any art. Sad

As pathetic as this may sound, I don't even know how to POST a story, let alone, see one.

Strata, there seems to be a bit of a problem with the story formats...
I tried posting a new chapter in rtf format earlier, but it gave that one error message: that the piece was blank or could not work.
Now, I know how many subjects have been started on this, but this is a glitch that just now has come up for me, as just two weeks or so ago, I posted another chapter in rtf format and it showed up just fine.
I also then tried posting in HTML format, as well as later trying unicode, etc, a lot of the ones you've suggested, and just about all my computer is capable of. I even tried uploading from different computers, but the file is either refused outright, or when it shows up, there's a huge gap between the paragraphs, which is what I'll have to live with for now, but it really kills the format.

Is there something you guys are working of, as of now? An error comes up,
Warning: finfo::finfo() [function.finfo-finfo]: Failed to load magic database at ''. in /usr/home/.sites/33/site5/web/add_wizard.add_story.php on line 267

Warning: finfo::file() [function.finfo-file]: The invalid fileinfo object. in /usr/home/.sites/33/site5/web/add_wizard.add_story.php on line 268

So... what's up?
I really hope you guys can fix things, or at least set them back as they were. rtf was my savior. Crying or Very sad

[edit]
Okay, I tried messing around with the formats some more, and somehow, by the gods, I managed to get it down to one extra set of double-spacing between paragraphs through using the 'edit with java' option.
Still, I'd like to know what's wrong, but I'm not touching the fic again, in case I mess it up.
I hope this doesn't stay...

Okay, ever since Fanart central went stupid on us, I cannot see my stories and it says there is an error.

I wrote those stories like 3 years ago and i have changed hard drives since then, not THINKING that FAC would fail on me! I STILL want those stories, and if I can't have them, I want someone to explain to me what the hell happened before I bite somebody. Evil or Very Mad

{It's fun to do the impossible.}

I didn't see this issue yet --

I keep trying to save a description after I go into "New Story." It says the same thing no matter what type of file I save it under:

"Description is limited to 255 characters"

and when I look for a SUBMIT BUTTON, even after I accept the Terms and Conditions for the submissions policy, it keeps saying "Add Another Chapter."

So I can't even put in my description first and get to the actual story.

I did try saving my description and story as well, and then also broke it right down to the point where it only had a few sentences and the same thing over and over.

Is there a bug or should I try some kind of work around? Sorry if there is an answer to this, but I looked around for a while and still couldn't find anything to solve the issue.

There's always possibility of a bug, but first, what was the Description you tried entering?

Thank you Strata.
I chose Movies>Star Wars>OCs and then I tried this one as it is , but it's missing some key info, and I tried saving it with some modifications and in different formats:

Quote:
I am developing the story of how Aria met up with various characters and where she now fits into the Star Wars galaxy.
When I started with her, she had no history at all. Just a SW template that I modified from the 6D system. She was a former Pirate. Well now she has a history, and so does her mother.
Bear with me as I edit this; I had it saved to another server but because I only go back to it after a great while has passed I forgot my password. I frequent this Blog more often. So I have copied & pasted it, but it's currently all de-html'd now: it's all in one big clump. I have a lot of editing to do. In the meantime, I also have real-life things going on, so I am not sure how fast I can work on this or not. But I will peck at it again now, probably more often now that I see it in here when I pop in to add things to the Blog.

And here is another version that I also attempted, and I think I prefer (again which I tried entering with some editing down and in different formats):

Quote:
ARIA: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A FORMER SPACE PIRATE

I am developing the story of how Aria met up with various characters and leading up to where she now fits into the Star Wars galaxy. [br]

When I started with her, she had no history at all. She was just a SW template that I modified from the 6D system. She was a former Pirate. Well now she has a history: her mothers (Ariasha) history is only hinted at in this story, and her fathers (Reissem) is described more openly. I wrote up quite a detailed background on her mother in a separate segment because her background is integral to Aria's development and I couldn't at the time figure out where to fit her story into Aria's... And Ariasha's life is shadowed in secrecy and danger.[br]

Bear with me as I edit this; I had it saved to different servers and because it was getting so long, it started to get errors when I saved it (too much spacing, etc). So I have copied & pasted it, but it's currently all de-html'd now: it's all in one big clump. I have a lot of editing to do. In the meantime I am not sure how fast I can work on this or not. But I will peck at it now and again. Please feel free to interject or give helpful comments, I am always open to ideas. [br]

If that's your Description for the story itself, it is much too long -- you need to summarize. The Description field is for a short blurb, not a long one, try limiting it to fifty words.

And if you ultimately do need to say all that, you can add it as "author's notes" to the first chapter.

I did try to whittle it down, but not that short, I don't believe... I will try again... Thanks.

---------------
Update! HAHA -- it worked... My bad. Now that I have downloaded the darn first chapter I see it looks all funny... I downloaded ADOBE, so I guess that's how I have to edit it -- because it only seems to let me edit the Introduction in the FORUMS...

I hope I can find another way to edit it because my computer will take all night to reboot because it's been having some issues...

Thanks for your sagely advice, StrataDrake, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
