Submission Question. . . .

Okay. At home, I use AOL 9.0 (go ahead, laugh. We cannot afford DSL.).

Sometimes, when I submit a pic, it takes like 20+ minutes to process, and instead of seeing the [i]"Your picture has been submitted, and will appear shortly"[/i] message, sometimes I get, [i]"I have no file to process". [/i]

HUH? What does that mean?

And, yes, I DO choose my picture I want to upload, and fill in the required categories. I make sure that the filename is filled in the blank before I click submit.

Help, please? Confused

OH. And another thing:

Sometimes when I try to submit a pic, it looks like it's loading, but then it takes me to a white screen, or the screen, "Page Cannot Be Displayed" comes up. Then, I have to go back and re-submit the picture. It's aggravating....

USUALLY. It works faster than normal past midnight (odd, I know). But after getting the "I have no file to process.", it's a little irritating, y'know?

The only time i got that error is when i moved on to the final step of the submission wizard by typing in its URL (as in not clicking it step-by-step).( just got me in add_picture.php)

Well. I have pictures I want to add, but they don't get added because of that error. Then, I resubmit the pic, and it puts two of 'em in my gallery. So, I just waited 2 out of my 3 submissions for that day, plus I have to go back and delete the second copy of the picture. Neutral

Sounds like you are trying to upload a huge pic (like a bmp or a psd) on a slow 'net connection and its taking too long and timing out.

Well, I have been uploading my pics as BITMAP, so I think that makes perfect sense. One picture I did said its size was 3.05 MB in .bmp. Though as .jpg it was like 664 KB.

664k is still pretty big for a jpeg.

resize to be about 600 or 700px wide at 72 dpi and it should be about a third that size.

I do. I end up like sizing them to be 'round 700 x 485 or something like that.[/quote]

Just submit it as a JPG/JPEG and it will be smaller then 200 KB

If your JPEG files are over half a meg at those dimensions, then your quality settings are WAY too high -- well, actually not [i]that[/i] much, but the upper 5-10% of the JPEG quality range causes the filesize to increase almost exponentially.

For most purposes, a JPEG quality setting of 80~90 works fine.
