I went to this brickfish.com so that I could sign up for the contest (for the PS3), but I ran into some problems:

1. How do you submit the pic? This shouldn't be so complicated!!!

2. It says that I have to be signed up for this contest, so I tried to register on brickfish, and it asked REALLY personal info. Like my school. Why would they need to know that? Seriously. So I didn't sign up.

Help meh!

Yeah, and if you win, they want to know your Social Security number! I just don't get it!

Fake info? You should be disqualified for that.

No, really. When the prize is a real PS3, they need to make sure that whomever wins is a real person with a real mailing address they can ship it to.

Yeah, but you didn't answer why they want to know your Social Security number. No one needs to know that to ship you a playstation.

Well, it wasn't really fake (or at least I don't think you would consider it.) I simply told them that I didn't go to school. When I typed in my zip code and all that jazz it had my exact school district. Almu got angry.

WHY WOULD THEY ASK THAT!?!?!?!

And why would someone make a fake mailing address for a PS3. That's just...ridiculous.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Not only that, but it seems as if no one knows about this site. I would've liked more feedback for my efforts. Seriously. XP

The Social Security Number is to verify that you are who you say you are and that you exsist. That is why they ask, to put it simply they will not send prizes to fake/ficticious people who do not exsist.

*EDIT* on a further note, If my memory serves me correctly half of that information (I.E School and what not) was optional.

I see. Kinda sounds silly, but I suppose it's understandable. However, to be truly honest, I feel that this contest was very disorganized. Very lackluster. I've entered contests before and none of them got this in depth with personal stuff. Perhaps it's because it was figured that everyone would exist when they entered their existing art for an item of such great value.

I dunno. It's my opinion. Perhaps next time, such a contest could be a bit more...tidy?

This contest is sponsored by a completely different company from FAC (as opposed to your everday casual "FAC contests"). That's part of the reason why, they have their own rules and reasons for requiring registration information.

You do realize that the prize is a PS3, right? They probably would care more about where they send their PS3 and who gets it because that's a huge investment right there. The last contest I won had only a cash prize of $100 US, and even though they didn't ask for my social security number, that doesn't compare to a PS3 because it costs even more.

no one needs to know your Social Security number to verify that ya exist. Geez, no wonder so many people get scammed every day. you do know what people can do with that number right? That, plus the required info they ask for (name, address, etc), can be used to steal your identity.

Sorry if I'm being paranoid, but that's just the way I was raised. I was raised to have more common sense than most people. Which isn't saying much, considering what you see on the news every day...

I'll take back what I said earlier, for optional fields that need not be filled in.

Brickfish.com does not require your SSN as part of the site's registration. Is that part of the entry procedure for the FAC logo contest?

They ask you to give your SSN to claim a prize. Maybe it's just the way my parents taught me, but I smell something fishy. And it's not just my cat's food. Anyways, I'm not entering, so I really don't care, actually. I was just curious as to why they would even ask one person for this kind of sensitive information.

Instead of asking us, since we're completely clueless, I think you should have just asked Brickfish to begin with.

I think they may want the SSN for tax reasons (best guess).

If you have a real problem with it -- ask them.
