psshht, Evil or Very Mad don't believe them.
if your coloring with colored pencil DEFINATLY ink it. especially if it's an anime.
if you draw it in pencil then color it with the pencil lines still on the paper. the pencil gets mixed with the colored pencils and it turns into a sloppy do Sad
make sure after your done inking all the pencil is completly erased Wink

If you think that coloured pencils and pencils don't go well together, then you're pressing way too hard with the pencils.

I experimented with this once, and if you do it right, it doesn't turn out too bad.

I don't have it posted here yet, but its simply a matter of technique and taste. While I don't particularly like the results, it's an interesting effect.

There is another, non-inking solution to this issue. I figured it out a long time ago.

When you're ready to start coloring, just take a good eraser (such as a click eraser) and erase the pencil lines from the paper as you go, before shading each area in. This will prevent about 99% of the ugly mixing that happens between graphite and pigment.

a kneaded eraser can lighten up the lines enought to where the two don't mix

Depends on the effect you wanna get. Sometimes when I purposely blend the pencil into the colors it adds an interesting volume. But if you're going for neat lines inking's definetly the best.

I never have this problem. Most of the time I do ink, but sometimes I don't and I don't get this. It may be that you're pressing too hard with your pencil when you're drawing the preliminary sketch, you're using too dark a lead, or may even be the quality of your pencils in general.

I've noticed that if you try to color in pencil-outlined drawings, they smudge. So ink before you color.

Try not to use black when you're coloring (unless you need to). Black smudges very easily.

Unless you have erasable colored pencils, you won't be able to erase any mistakes, so clean any up in MS Paint, Photoshop, etc.

There. I hope some of my valuable tips and tricks helped you. Very Happy

Regular colored pencils will erase . . . partially. Don't expect to go over the same area with a completely different color, but you can nonetheless add highlights or tints of a related color to it.

Erasble colored pencils clean up better at light pressures, but at heavy pressure even they won't erase (and they aren't as vivid as normal colored pencils either).

Normal graphite pencils erase the best. Even heavy pressure will clean up almost completely, so after you've inked a drawing, just go over the whole thing with an eraser.

I don't think there is anything at all wrong with drawing with a pencil and coloring as well. I actually perfer it over anything as pen, you def. can't fix mistakes and if you use pencil underneith it could smear when erasing.

Both done with pencil and colored pencil, nothing wrong with them. So I'm not sure what you are talking about ?_? but oh well. Those are from the scanner through GIMP for the copyrights, photobucket, then here. Also, yes any mistakes can easily be cleaned up on most art programs. I use GIMP 2.2.13 and it works great.

I made this "scuffed" up pencil/colored pencil drawing:

Into this:

With no problem at all, using GIMP to put it on the backround. One of my friends photomaniped stars onto it with another program. Then I darkened it again on GIMP with no problems. Nothing smeared while actually drawing with either pencil or colored pencil also.

If you have a scanner and printer at home, make a copy of the non-colored picture. Then you can color the scanned picture, because it doesn't have the actual pencil lines. You will have two versions of the picture you're working on, but it really does help a lot when it comes to coloring those things. Wink

Very true, I often scan my "rough" drafts so if I mess up on the coloring then I can always go back, scan it again and re-start.
