|
|
Anyone know what kind of pens would be PERFECT for outlining, and that are not expensive or over-priced??
I'm currently using a fine-tipped black Sharpie. It does the job, but it kinda, um, runs a little, and looks un-professional.
I want to use pens that give my art a professional touch, but I'm not willing to go and spend over $100 on such.
Any help, anyone? |

Pigment pens.(India ink) should work work pretty well. Most pens should go at least under 5 dollars. Unless you get a pack of 'em, then it might range over 10-12 dollars. And you can usually get then at art stores. I could never find them at Target or Walmart... |

Micron pens are great for lining. They come in widths ranging from 0.1mm to 0.5mm (and brush pens).
They also average $2.70 per pen. But as they're strictly for lining, they last awhile. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Wow. Thanks.
I'm guessing that if you use the pens for just outlining, and not coloring, they should last longer. Gotcha. |

If you're going to use pens for coloring, you're going to need "markers".
Art markers are a different beast than your average Sharpie, they're available in a wide range of brands and so on. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

A Sharpie pen? I think I'm using one now. It's an ultra-fine point. |

Depends on the type of pen, e.g., Faber-Castell India ink pens call that "super fine", but Microns call it a #8 (the largest size Microns come in). _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I have benn using a Parker calagraphy pen (25 USD) as of late priot ro that I had been using pilot Precice V5s (2 USD), unfortunately I think I need better paper for either pen to show it's true capibilities. _________________ RPG-n. Microns have been my pen of choice for years now. The .01 and .005 ones to be precise. I used to use ultrafine sharpies and sharpie pens way back when, but let me tell you they can't hold a candle to microns. Sharpies have a tendency to smudge or absorb too much into the paper if you're not careful enough. Also liquids can make them run so spraying a picture with a finishing product is out of the question. It's also harder to use markers as the sharpie ink tends to run into the colors... and you can forget about watercolors. Microns are a waterproof and fade proof pen so you can put you finishing spray on and use markers and watercolors on over them. They also write better over areas that already had color put down on them (to add any details or fix mistakes). Generally you also get a much crisper cleaner line that is also a lot easier to control then those made by sharpies. |

go for micron pens for oultining....is my opinion
OR...you don't have to outline your pencil drawings...a kneaded eraser will leave some pencil lines, lighter or darker , depending on how hard you pressed with your pencil.. _________________ You probably recognize a pattern beginning to take shape.
