There's so many art theft form different sites and people putting art that don't belong in that catagory. Take the Naruto fan character fourm one girl named skygirl keeps placing random comics there. Please This is to help. If you need it you may need to recute more mods but this will help cut the crimes by a good percent. I'll even help if you guys want.^.^ this site has such a bad rep lets work together and clean this place up!

If a person isn't sorting their pics correctly then that is not a big issue, FAC staff can fix little things like that pretty quickly.

If you see art theft, by all means report them to staff. For the time being you can send an e-mail to abuse@fanart-central.net, or you can PM a staff member (such as myself) and we'll look into it. But be forewarned, you're going to need proof of who the pictures originally belonged to. And where abuse reports are concerned, don't try to post abuse reports in a forum topic.

Most just take screenshots and edited them to their character and as for the miss sorting it makes the site look messy and displeasing. Listen so many great artist have left do to all the lying, theft, and lack of athurity.

I don't listen to weasel words. But FAC's category system is large and complicated, and keeping it organized is a large task. deviantART's category system, by contrast is much simpler, so while it can't distinguish between Inuyasha and Naruto, it's much easier for their staff to keep organized. (Did you know that deviantART staff sometimes deal with miscat reports by moving them to the "Scraps" section?)

And again, if you see another person stealing art, don't just stand around there, take action! Don't tell them, tell us. FAC has hundreds, thousands of members. We staff members cannot guard against art theft all by ourselves, we need the FAC community to help out and keep watch, to be our eyes and ears and alert us to suspicious activity.

Usually, whenever I receive an abuse report by PM, I take action immediately.

That's why get someone knowledgable of the subject. I don't care about what the other sites do, but look FAC is known for theft and amature work.

We can't do a thing about amateur work, but where art theft is concerned, like I said it's too large a job for a small group of staff members.

As for knowing which characters appear in which series, since I'm the person who handles most of the requests for new categories, I'm a quick study of which characters appear in which series. And lately I've been trying to find ways to help simplify the submission categories.

I know there's nothing you can do about amature work, but atleast encrease the number of mods to help stop theft. as you said "it's too large a job for a small group of staff members. "

That reminds me, with all the abuse reports I have filed in the last month or so I have been wondering what the process is when dealing with stolen imagery?

Unfortunately we don't keep much track of who processes reports sent to abuse@fanart-central.net. One of the features we'll be working on for the next FAC layout is a built-in report function for keeping a better watch of abuse reports and so on.

But in general, for an abuse report to be processed you need to supply us with:

1 - URL to the submission in question
2 - URL to an original image for verification

If you do not provide us with a URL to the original, then that severely limits what we can do about it. Generally the only ones we can prosecute without requiring proof are "generator" images (South Park, Gaia Online, etc.) and edits of videogame sprites.

Was going to suggest that we start building artist submission lists from the artist at other sites, like DA, so if they came here we'd be sure that the art was theirs, but that would just end up being a convoluted mess of a program. We're better off just using the site members as that kind of system.

Having individual people in charge of categories they are knowledgeable about is an idea I've had for a long time,

However it has been decided against -- at least for now, because of a variety of administrative problems that would be involved.

Mostly the fact that its hard enough to find a hand full of people mature and responsible enough to be site helpers, finding thousands of them just won't happen.

And we do have literally thousands of submission categories.
