saving the world isn't just an anime thing; spiderman, x-men, Fantastic 4, about 100 American movies that involves aliens, etc etc

It's just the "ultimate conflict"
yesh, very true, but there ARE other anime that don't deal with saving the world, (Ranma 1/2, Prince of Tennis, Marmalade Boy, etc) but I do see what you mean, the the most un-original story I can think of is thrown into another world, and transformation saving the world. I mean there were the classics like Yu Yu Hakusho, and Sailor Moon, but after a while... . . . .

though there are a few anime such as Cowboy Bebop where it kinda bends the rules a bit, since it's kinda the Bebop's job to save the world but then again they're just out for the money so it's really not "saving the world" but then again it is, and you can through that one around until dooms day. Very Happy

What I don't get is like, ok, some random little boy is magically plucked from his normal life and sent to save the world, how many people even know who that kid is? I mean, its never some famous pop-star or actor who is sent to save the world, its always the ordinary pretty boys/girls.

I always hated when the 15 year old boy with the sword somehow managed to defeat the 'overlord of all evil and demise' who's had years and years of training and crap.

Most of my original stuff is only meant to save a town or a few people or something. Some of my 'main' characters are weak beyong compare and are only lookin gto find some random peice of thier life, ot even giving a damn oabout the rest of the world.

Why can't more animes be like that?

Now I'm just rambling.....

The whole save-the-world thing - yeah, overused and unoriginal. But, it's the main idea since the B.C.'s. And for all you complainers, please enlighten us with new ideas!

Of course, I also always wonder why the young teenage boy beats the super strong villain. I guess they always choose the youth to represent the change from naivity to maturity, both mentally and physically...And the teenagers are prettier. Laughing And you can never have an adult killing a child. It's just not done in today's society. It's just...okay for a child to kill an adult.

One of the few 'save the world' anime shows that I like is Samurai Champloo. It's more realistic than most anime (the setting...no magic or evil beings other than crooked people) and focuses on everyday hardships that happen as the main trio try to find the 'samurai that smells of sunflowers'. I think even DNAngel focuses more on Daisuke trying to overcome his fear of telling the girl he loves how he feels (in direct competition with Dark).

But you know, somehow, I never really payed attention to how everyone saves the world or is a schoolkid until now. I tend to overlook obvious things. I guess it's how we all know that it's hard being a student. Having a job along side being a student is twice as hard. Saving the world and doing those two is maybe the ultimate challenge.

I know of one "Saving the World" anime that has multiple people with day jobs saving the world:
It's called "Mai-Hime"
I mean, most of the kids are in either High School or Middle School.
Two of the HighSchoolers work at a restraunt.
One of the older people (Claims she's 17, she's really 24), worked at that same restraunt until she got a job at the school.
Another one is a nurse for the head master who is confined to a wheel chair.

Although, I just started watching that manga, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.
But they DO have jobs.

And I totally adored Digimon when I was little!
Until they went into the third season...they just totally ruined it from there, from what I've seen while babysitting, apparently there are NO digimon in the current season, just a bunch of kids who can turn into them. Apparently the season that comes out this year involves a secret organization trying to keep the world from KNOWING about Digimon.

You know what I've always wondered? When do all these saving the world chosen ones go to the bathroom? I've seen the THROW UP in one. Naruto has gone to the bathroom in a bush. But I've never seen anyone go to the bathroom or even say (other than Naruto), "Whoops, I have to go to the bathroom, hold on a minute."

Something to think about...

you're right about that. but also that's becouse most of the manga-ka's are older that 40~50. But kishimoto is a lil bit younger and has got the fantasy of young peaple.(at least I think).

um.....The ones that are coming to mind right now all either invovle being sent to another world (where you don't have to worry about that Laughing ) or school kids o.o;;;

Or it is their job.
Damn that is SO TRUE! I was going to mention that in my starter post but then I thought, nah, better not. But yeah, how come it's always the school-age kids entursted with saving the world these days?
Because most anime- not all of it, but particularly the ones where everyday people are called on to save the world- is aimed towards children. And children tend to prefer characters their age and their gender, that they can relate to and relate with, having crazy, unsupervised, dangerous, exciting adventures. Realism's rarely a factor. ^^()
