Maybe, when someone submits a picture, there could be an option, in check box form, which they can choose. It would say "allow Social Bookmarking" or something to that effect.[/quote]

If Denis makes the option it will be another thing to check in your edit your profile page.

Edit:
I'm not sure of the build that He uses on this site but the way I see it it wouldn't be to hard to create it.

A stored 0-1 variable, if the variable is 1 then let the bookmarking fly. But thats the simply all or none version.
To make it work for a single picture or any number of pictures that the user choses would be a bit more complicated...

[quote="Papercut_Dragon"]Bleach, huh? Well I got plenty o' that to put out there. XD Maybe I'll watermark a few images and bookmark 'em for the site.

Blade, it's not automatic. There's a button above your art that you click and then it bookmarks it. ^_^[/quote]

Lol, your post number is 777

Back to what I was about to say...
I know it's not automatic. But anyone can bookmark anyone else's pictures right? Aka I could come along and bookmark all of yours. And say you don't want yours all over the internet. Then that stinks for you. (Not saying you don't, just an example)

It would be nice to decide on an individual picture basis. There may be some stuff people want up, some people don't.

If you don't want your pictures all over the net, don't post them online.

I completely disagree.
(And you should know I have been slightly playing devils advocate here)
Regardless, when someone posts on an art site, it expected the art stays there and does not flood across the net. Most people I know of are like that.
Please don't tell me you put stuff up here to see it on google.
I for one do not want to see some fanart I drew of inuyasha two years ago all over some twelve year olds myspace because they found it after a second if image searching.
When people see something on an art site, they are less likely to take it, more likely to be aware that it belongs to a person.
Google, not so much. People seem to think it's a mighty provider of stock or something, even though it is not. Most people have the sense to realize art sites are not for use at a whim, and art should not be taken from them.

No, a reply, here on the fourms.
Notice how when you go to add to our conversation, on the blue bar above the box I'm typing in it says "Post a reply" which is where I grabbed the termonology from.

Oh well nothing to worry about there. BB just does that for some reason. not even the experts know why. It comes and goes.
BB3.0 is the same way.

Now if its throws some errors then you need to report it, and by that I mean like messes up the page bad.

Any time you publish anything to the internet, you need to know the risks. If you don't, you're a child and children should not be on the internet. It's a risk adding your images to FAC, dA, SA, PB, Imageshack, Myspace or anywhere else online.

Denis added the Social Bookmarking feature for a few [b]smart[/b] reasons. One reason is because anyone who puts images on the internet WANT them to get exposure. That's the main reason art web sites are made and having that feature is a perk for most members. And people who do not want anyone else to see their pictures usually hide them in their closet forever.

Social bookmarking is a means for art theft about as much as any art website. Less so, actually. Where would a thief go first to steal artwork, digg.com or DeviantART?

If someone wants to steal an image, there is nothing stopping them. Also, if someone adds an image to Del.icio.us, it won't automatically pop up in top searches on Google, I don't know where you heard that from but stop listening to whoever told you that.

[quote="Stratadrake"]Denis, you need to add a permission that controls whether a user's avvie (or profile info) gets displayed or not.

It's far more effective for dealing with minor offenses than banning.[/quote]

Due to the design of the permission system, that would be very hard. Just change their avatar.

[quote]The point to that is to save load time. [/quote]

Actually it doens't affect load time (not yet at least). Its mostly there to safe space. No need for the filters cluttering stuff up.

[quote]Just noticed this,
In the browse categories page the BBcode used to change the text in the Java hover descriptions is not working, its just being displayed as text.
Also, i think some of the descriptions are missing from the script.[/quote]

Not all categories have descriptions. I'll fix the BBcode tho.

[quote]So Denis, what if some one doesn't want their pictures to be bookmarked?[/quote]

Then they shouldn't put it on the 'net. Its a standard part of the net. Adding a simple link to make it convinant doens't really change anything. You can't really stop people from linking you on the 'net, its the way html works.

The social bookmarking doesn't copy it or anything, its just a link.

Just tried bookmarking something to Del.icio.us, and it turns out you have to have an account with them to bookmark something anyway.

[After I created an account:]

So I bookmarked one of my images - I don't know about Digg, but on Del.icio.us, it's, well, it's what Denis says. It [i]is[/i] just a link. One among many. Type in "inuyasha" and you get 1712 results - at least the first two pages worth are actual websites, not art.

So, in the end, maybe I will use this feature. I wouldn't go around bookmarking other people's work, but I might end up doing it with mine.

Has anyone else been asking about this? Maybe a short explanation should be provided somewhere (the FAQs or on the main site?) about what these sites are. I can't imagine everyone knows about these sites, or what social bookmarking entails. Or that could just be me and my lack of internet-website knowledge. ^^;

I ran some tests on the block system last night (well, at least until you added the code to prevent self-blocking), and from what I could tell if a user is blocked, they will still be able to [i]reply[/i] to whomever blocked them, just not on that person's pages.

And FAC admins are able to unblock any user. That should at least have a confirm() box.
