I once heard that the first ever manga was dated all the way back from 1814 starting from the print by Hokusai Katasushika. Ya know, back in the day with all that cool calligrapgy stuff of those gishas, moutains, and blossoms and stuff. thou I can't remember the correct term for it...thou I think it's something like ukiyo-e...

And then came modern revolution. I dont know if any of you have heard of these but comics like Spihdo Taroh(speedy), Bohken Dankichi (Dankichi the adventurer), and Narakuro (black stray) were really popular especially in the 1930s

And whe of course can't forget probably the greatest and well know manga creator of all time: Tetsuwan Atomu of Astro Boy! Wow-we he took the Japanese pop culture of anime/mang by storm when it hit as an anime in the 1960s!

but there was another anime that hit the japanese otaku culture by storm that I just can't seem to remember. But I definly remember a girl with green hair, short horns and a tiger striped bikini. Does anyone happen to know that name of that girl or that anime. I know that it's a fairly old one.

The character is likely Lum, by Rumiko Takahashi.

wait a sec
I thought that the guy Osamu Tezuka
made astro boy...weird
but I am sure that astro boy is the first anime
but it is not the first Manga
Hinotori is probably the first TRUE manga
I have two of the original copies wich date from 1958 or so
how can I tell?
the fist mangas were hardcover unlike the ones today
plus Hinotori's creation started with a little help from Walt Disney
a partner Tezuka worked with in art school
now this 1700s stuff
I dont know...
if anime was around by that time surely
Propaganda used by the Japanese during WW2 or sapporian war
would of been chock full of it.

Tetsuwan Atomu is the japanese name of Astro Boy, not the author who happens to be Osamu Tezuka.
