I just got an email saying -
Your picture "Kazuka and Sayuri - Kids" (ID# 670571) has been deleted from Fanart Central by an admin.
The stated reason is: FAC is not an image hosting service. We do not permit "edits" of screenshots, etc. to be submitted here, only 100% original (entirely artist-drawn) content is allowed.
But it wasn't an edit, it was my own work, just using the same background as the original picture i used as reference.
What do i do?! _________________ http://www.fanart-central.net/user-Yunalesca.php

If you used the reference picture's background, then it's not 100% yours. _________________ Go Yankees! |

Screenshots from anime, film, etc. copyrighted material are never an acceptable background material.
As the person processing this deletion I will say that it showed definite signs of being 'edited', and by the look of it the source material was most likely an anime screencap. However the person filing their report did not have a URL of the original material for comparison, so I took action based on instinct rather than stated policy (because sometimes, the proof is so clearly obvious that including the source with a report is not strictly necessary).
You may use valid stock resources for a background (including photography), however this only applies to material specifically intended to be used as stock, and you MUST cite where you found the material as a reference. (The "References" field hs limited length -- you may also want to give it a brief cite in your Description)
Photography, for example, may be used as a background BUT ONLY IF it doesn't distract from whatever you're drawing on top of it (in other words merely adding a piece or two of text onto a photo is not allowed).
(Which reminds me, I still need to finish that "Undelete" function sometime.) _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
