Image conversion failed. Try re-submitting in another format
I keep getting that message when I try to submit a picture of a furry I drew. I'm not all that computer smart, so I asked my dad what was wrong. He doesn't get it either. Whats going on? This has never happened with any of my other pictures, and I uploaded this to my computer and then to the site the same as I normally do. I have no clue what the matter is. What's the filename of the image you're submitting?
For best results please save your images as JPG or GIF before submission. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

What do you mean? I've always submitted my pics by uploading them onto my computer, saving the to MSPaint, then uploading them here, and it's always worked before now. This also happened with a second pic I tried to submit the same day. _________________ YOU'VE JUST BEEN SPECKLEDORFED!!!! |

I think he means what the id# of your pic is or, what kind of format your submiting your pic in like JPG, GIF, BMP, etc. _________________ THIS SIGNATURE IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE. |

He is looking for the format.
If the OP is using MS Paint, It's safe to assume they are trying to upload BMPs _________________ RPG-n. If I wanted the submission ID number I would have asked for it, Morpher.
Besides, this error message occurs before the submission is even queued for approval, it doesn't even get assigned an ID number in the first place; and site staff can look up any submission by a user and determine its ID number that way, many times we don't even need to ask. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Right, but we didn't realize it was such an understatement....
BMP = MS Paint's default format. Pixel perfect image format. No compression whatsoever. DO NOT USE for uploading to the Internet.
JPG = Image format designed for photos, also works well with scanned traditional art or digital paintings. Best file compression but slight quality loss. Do not use for pixel art.
GIF = Image format designed for icons. Decent image compression but limited color palette, supports transparency and animation. Best used for small icons or pixel art. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Okay, then what's going on? That's how I've submitted all of my pictures before, I don't know what's wrong now. That's how I've also submitted all of my pictures to DA, and they upload just fine there. _________________ YOU'VE JUST BEEN SPECKLEDORFED!!!! |

Whats happening is the server is timing out your request.
Since the BMP file types allow for no compression, they take a long time to load, and longer as the size of files increases.
All thats needed to fix this problem is going to:
File -> Save As
Once the new dialog window opens, enter your filename and select either:
JPEG/JPG, GIF, TIFF, or PNG from the 'save as type:' drop down menu.
If you encounter any other problems after you've saved the file in a more internet friendly format, you may let us know.
Hope it helped.

I've adjusted the server settings to allow for bigger uploads. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

Welcome, but there is no "Dialog Button." When you go to File (on the top of the paint window) and click it, click "Save As" The new window that opens has all you need to save the file in a different format. (That is the dialog window mentioned earlier.) |

Be advised you are talking to the only site admin. Show a bit of respect, please.
And you can save the files as PNG instead, they produce way better pictures with moderate compression. |

PNG files can become pretty big though. |
