I'm just curious about what kind of starter pokemon people pick.

For me, it's usually fire types.

Blue - Squirtle ~ played more
Red - Charmander (but my red was glitched. It restarted everytime i turned it off)
Yellow - Pikauchu (Obviously)
Gold - Cyndaquil ~ played more
Silver - Cyndaquil
Crystal - Totodile
Ruby - Torchic
Sapphire - Treeko
Emerald - Torchic ~ played most
FireRed - Charmander
LeafGreen - Squirtle ~ played most
Diamond - Chimchar ~ played more
Pearl - Piplup

Fire types -7
Other - 6

I pick either Charmander or Bulbasaur for Pokemon Red/Blue/Firered. Charmander is powerful, but doesn't fare up as well to the first two Gym Leaders. So I end up choosing Bulbasaur, who is effective against both Brock and Misty.

In Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal, I chose Cyndaquil. Or Totodile. Chikorita isn't that effective against the first couple of Gym Leaders.

In Pokemon Ruby, I chose Torchic.

In Pokemon Pearl, I chose Piplup. High defense.

Interesting. What I've heard is that water pokemon are always good for the gym leaders, but the fire starters always help you out during the elite 4 battles.

And the grass type must be thrown in there for variation XP

In my experience, somehow I always ended up choosing the starter with the highest Speed.
- Charmander
- Cyndaquil
- Treecko
- Chimchar

Now for the 2nd generation, Fire wasn't a bad choice on the type-matching considering the first two Gym leaders were Flying and Bug themed.

Well, Yellow's starter was something of a given... though I distinctly remember that when I played Yellow, Gary ultimately evolved his Eevee into a Jolteon.

I want to say.. he picks the one that has a type advantage over whatever you picked, though I might be wrong. I had a Vaporeon, and Gary's turned into a Jolteon.

True about the second gen. Flying types don't do super effective and Bug types woud be killed with fire.

Also, if you realize, someone (or morethan one) In the Elite 4 has something that's extremely weak against fire, usually Ice types or Bug types. And in the 4th gen., if you didn't pick Chimchar, you're only other option for a solid fire type would have been Ponyta.

Yeah, I was kinda disappointed that the only two fire type Pokemon was Chimchar and Ponyta. That sucks.

For me, I'm pretty sure it was Jolteon both ways.

Now that I think about it, Gary's Eevee always turned into a Jolteon for me too . . . .

I took all three on different games for Silver/Gold/Crystal
Torchic on Ruby and Totodile for Sapphire
Prior to Silver/Gold I don't think I could read and after Ruby and Sapphire I didn't want to spend money on the games

Come to think of it, that sounds a lot like what happened to my Gold version -- its battery died. Shame, too, took a lot of good pokémon down with it.

Ah, according to my brother, Gary's eevee evolution depends on your battles with him. If you lose one, you get Vaporeon, lose the other, you get Flareon, win both, you get Jolteon.

This wasn't even from the battery dying. When I got it, it just kept restarting. I was like 5 when I got it, So I was extremly frustrated.

It was so Weird.

Yeah, I was under the impression that that was how it worked, as well.

As for starters, I think I picked Bulbasaur whenever possible. Cyndaquil for GS and Torchic for RS, and I picked a Piplup in my current Diamond game.

Boy, do I ever regret it. :\ He's so useless. None of his stats are specialized enough to make anything do much damage. and he's ugly now D8

Haha.

I regret choosing Piplup as well . . .
Oh well, I ended up getting the other two in trade.
