Hey, I was thinking, wouldnt it be awsome to have an oekaki board here on FAC?

Not only would it be cool, but it would benafit most of the people here who dont ahve the money to get photoshop, or any of those programs. This site would also get alot more pictures in, and be able to brag about that, that's for sure.

Well, its just a thought, please try and pull sumthin' for us! We're rooting for yah!

This has been suggested before but has yet to reach a consensus.

Yes, just get The GIMP if you want something reasonably close to Photoshop. It's like Photoshop. Inkscape, not too sure about.

You could get openCanvas as well for free. Version 1.1, that is. The others are 30-day trial versions. Basically what that does is that its kinda like Corel Painter, but it also has an oekaki-like interface.

Artweaver is a pretty good art program, as well, though maybe not as advanced as Photoshop. It has many brushes that can mimic paint and other media.

Besides Artweaver, ArtRage is better at imitating traditional media. It usually comes with most drawing tablets, or you can download the starter edition from its website, though it doesn't contain most of the brushes and effects.

Manga Studio is another good program, great for manga artists. I don't know whether it is a trial version or not.

Of course, you can either resort to MS Paint, or use this online drawing program called ArtPad.

You see, there are many good programs on the 'Net that you can use for free. You don't have to have Photoshop to make art.

Inkscape is a vector-graphics editor, like Adobe Illustrator. Good thing for sketching out clean digital lines with.

Wo-ha XD answers in a flash, great, now I know where and what to get, but though I really would think it'd be cool to have it on the site, y'know, just for us, I've yyet to see it on deviantART, nor Sheezyart. nor any other art website, aside those that depend on the oekaki boards.

Thanks for all the info though people! It's greatly appreciated!

and thanks denis and the staff for me, I know they're working hardcore to make imporvements, or to fix errors on the website, like I said, FAC's rooting for you guys!

I support oekaki submissions.

I've just not found anyone who is either
a. Very nerdy and have lots of time on their hands
and/or
b. Fluent in both Japanese and English.

Hm, well, I do have alot of time on my hands, espetially now that I'm not in school, and well, if I'm told somewhat specific instructions on things, I would be able to do a nice job, though I'm not fluent in japanese at all, though I do know spanish, I was born speaking it. Hope that's of any assistance in the future though.^__^

Hehe..
I did at least try. Smile

The only thing I didn't like about the one system we found and can use is that:
1. It's in japanese...
2. I don't think it has a command line interface. (lol so using would be hard anyway...)
3. and it's a bit lacking in options... It only has the very most basic of tools.

But whatever works, works.
Actually making an Oekaki system would be much much harder than I had even originally thought.
Coordenates on the client side in a pixel-by-pixel measurement/grid would be relayed to a PHP script. Then using the image functions that PHP offers we use the last save of the image file and add the new markings to it, save it again, and send a code back to the client side requesting the Javascript reload the image board.
All via one honking AJAX connection that's constantly open and always waiting for an update code, ready to do things within milliseconds...

Lol, it sounds so easy! Very Happy

MUCH easier to make it in Java or Flash then save to the server when it's done.

Coding AJAX drawing just sounds....masochistic.
