Ideas?

These guys are Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers the USA men's beach volleyball team. It's just so plain...what should I add in the background? I thought about doing spectators but I have no clue how to draw a crowd and it seems really intimidating.

Some banners or signs, perhaps? And if you do decide to do a crowd, you don't have to draw detail. Just draw some stands and spots of color in them, both faded out to a point. Remember that with perspective, what ever isn't the focus is always less crisp. Since the players and the net are the focus, everything in the background will loose detail.
