Is that PearlEden? Yes, her fur textures certainly are holy-crap amazing.

Getting fur like that is not a matter of simple shading tricks, you actually have to plan out how you want the fur to fall. That's not something you'll find tips or tutorials for easily, you need to experiment with it yourself, learn by doing (trying and failing, too).

For starters, it helps to divide a section of fur into 'clumps' or 'tufts' and apply simple directional hatching to each individual tuft by itself (rather than as all at once). I have an example here...

...the lower right section of the image has a few examples of some fur textures I experimented on, ranging from simple directional shading to subdivided 'tufts' of fur.

yea thats pearl Smile i have been working on planning out where the fur goes and what not, i have a lot of issues with the shapes though, like, it looks odd to me and i can't figure out why, or i end up making it look kinda scalyish, like big floppy scales O.o i know i'm not gonna be able to do that right away, i'm just looking for a tutorial to get me in the right direction, so i can figure out what i am doing that is screwing me up...

the example you sent me is nice Smile thanks ^^
