Background help

I fail at backgrounds - I just never know what to do with them (one of these days I'll learn to actually plan out things rather than jump straight to the fun bits!)

Anyway, I've got this picture:

I'm sort of happy with the basics of what I've got but I don't know where to go next - I'd sort of like to carry the scratchy colouring style into the background but I don't know how.

Any suggestions?

I think he needs a bit of a reflection, since that looks like glass and all.
