FAC visual layout - Discussion?

Good idea, but will it be icons, or lists? Also, will it be private or public, or could you choose between the two of them?

Oh yes, would there be an option to make yourself "Hidden" from showing up on the Recent Users list? Would it be possible?

Speaking of hidden, would it be possible to make your online status on the mainsite hidden as well?

Visible online status is part of your forum profile, correct?

Since the forum schema is on the same server as the mainsite schema, it should be pretty easy (at least in theory) to make account options accessible on both sides.

It doesn't have anything to do with connecting forum and mainsite options.

Yes it does, actually. phpBB [i]already[/i] gives you this as an account setting, so instead of adding a new field to record this option on the mainsite side of things we could potentially just link it in from forumside so that it has the same effect there as here.

I was thinking on the main page, if possible, links to current contests running so maybe it will increase more involvement from the fanart central community within the forums.

Or just have a box having latest threads maybe?

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but I think someone suggested a larger "forums" button.

Edit: Also is it possible to have a search bar in the forums so you can make sure you're not going to duplicate a thread? Unless you regularly delete old threads or there is already a way you can do this or someone has already suggested this.

Well....me personally...I despise random avitars flyin all over my profile page son Naturally I am proposing a list of profile links

Personally, if possible, I would like to see that particular ability to hide reserved for staff. Hiding account visits could prove needed in abuse monitering.

The entire point of my having suggested it is artist exposure. I've seen a (far from excessive but) notwothy number of artists who close accounts are closing them due to feeling a lack of exposure here on FAC. So the ability for User level individuals being able to hide the fact they visited a gallery would defeat the intent of the reasent visitors list.

As much as I would like to see that, I don't know how possible it is. Of all the websites I know that have that you are describing, All of them their forum is the primary function of their website and the main page merely a facade to pile up related information on. Whereas here on FAC, the Main site is our primary function and the forum the secondary. I truely would like to see some greater forum promotion on the main site though.

Look to the existing header, it is already there, always has been.

Oh yes. I can see how the admins spending tons of time programming special features for just a few people would be helpful for FAC. Your brilliance is astounding.

Paid accounts have been discussed before, but aside from the whole matter of setting up a payment service there are still two problems:

1 - What sorts of extra features would members want for their money? Obviously we wouldn't be serving any advertisements to paying members, but what else should they get?
2 - ...and of those, which ones are [i]not[/i] on the list of features we're going to build anyway?

I think this color scheme would look nice with little more blue. (DeviantART doesn't look like this anymore so it shouldn't be a problem.)

I have no interest in copying their color scheme either. (I certainly prefer FAC's color scheme over theirs.) I'm just more interested in their old layouts.

I'll try coming up with some mock-ups if you prefer.
