Main Page 'Recent Pictures' not updating

Why isn't the RECENT PICTURES section on the front/main FAC page showing newly added pictures to Fanart Central this Sunday evening?

Serious answer?

Since [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon%27s_Law][u]90% of everything is crap[/u][/url], we're experimenting with ways to improve what gets shown on the frontpage.

So in the case of the five recent pictures, FAC is currently applying a small (automated) filter to them in deciding which pictures to show. But it is still pulling them from the database newest-first.

The new filter may be too aggressive. We will consider adjusting it a bit depending on how it goes over the next several days.

Agreed. Most of what I see on the main page is eye sores IMHO. I mean whoever said that most people get turned off by the front page is right. FAC looks too much like a kiddy site. If improvement of the layout changes maybe FAC will get much more traffic.

Oh thank god, I was getting sick of looking at all this recently submitted crap all the time. There were ocasionally new good pics, but it was rather rare :>

So hopefully, the mainpage filter can at least reduce the crap factor from 90% to . . . I dunno, 80%?

Crap shows up and stays on the main page, just longer now.

hows the filter working out? are you happy with the results?

personally i liked it better before cause if you did not like what you saw a least it changed often.

yeah, now if I want to see new work, I have to actually click the arrow and go through loading two screens. I prefer to see ALL the new work, even if it IS crap.

BTW, if you're doing it by eliminating the beginner's work, there are a lot of people with low esteem about their work when it is pretty good. So all ur doing is lowering their esteem MORE.

If you're complaining about having to click through to see recent stuff, that's your fault. You shouldn't be so lazy.

I think this new filter system is the best addition to FAC I have ever witnessed.

That's saying so little.

And speaking of little . . . there's a lot of little things that deserve being worked on at some point. Like, if you get bounced back to the submissions form because of an error you have to re-upload the file, or how you should be redirected back to a submission's page after clicking the vote links... (or that FAC site staff should have 'view deleted comments' enabled by default)

i would have no prob with the filter it it seemed to make a difference.
but i dont really see an improvement on whats shown, stuff just seems to stay up longer and i dont think you could call that an improvement.

if it about making FAC more popular, i dont think its the recent pics thats turning people off to the site. i like the recent pics when they change often cause it was a good way to checkout new artist.

I thought the featured pics did a good job showing of the "Good" art.

the main page to me seems more Static and lost the fluidity it had before.
