Yup, everyone has their own preferences. I actually liked the evil splash. So if we're going to have a rotation of images, go ahead and design one you like as well. Some of our suggestions are also constructive. _________________ "edit : i luv james" - Layzcarter |
The big ears aren't an issue in themselves, it was more the aspect ratio of them I was referring to. I took about a dozen pixels of height off the middle of the left ear in mspaint and the ratio seemed better.
Looking again and doing a little testing, I think the main issue with the face was the red eyes make it look evil. Seems to be better with black pupils with a yellow iris like the classic colors (but with your better drawing style).
Alright I edited it like you said, I reduced the size of the ears and made the pupils black, I hope you like it now and everyone else too x3
There's something off with the face. Perhaps lower and rotate slightly the cat's left eye? If you draw a line through the eyes and a line for the bottom of the head, you'll notice that they're not parallel. You could probably just use the liquefy feature and shove the bottom right (our view) of the head up and to the left a bit.
Another thing, where is your light source?
Also, it looks kinda weird to have really light outlines for the cat and a really dark one for the palette.
FINAL EDIT to match what London said...
About the light source...Should there be any? I was not aware that there should be a background to tell us where the light and the shadow comes from, for that I could do a totally unshaded cat, since the sources are unknown, but listen, looking at every detail doesn't bring us anywhere further.
About the eye critic, I don't know your point of view but the eyes should match to the head's rotation otherwise it would look like a zombie, about the hard lines, it should be obvious that it is a hard object comparing to the cats furr...Anyway I edited it, I hope you like it this way because I don't have time to edit it anymore, this is my final one. Believe me it is a pain in the ass, I am working with mouse...

I don't mean to sound bitter, cold or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

I like it.
About the light source...Should there be any?
The light source itself shouldn't be drawn in, but it needs to be planned. Any shaded picture needs to have a light source in mind when shading so the shading is consistent.
Please make a version with the "Fanart Central" text back in. I liked that choice of font and the slight 3d effect. The background was nice too. May not be compatible with the current layout, but would be used later. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

Can the blue splash be added to? Also, the shadow behind it's left ear makes it look thicker than the right ear, which doesn't have a shadow.
And I think London is referring to the symmetry of the face, it's a little off.

If you look closely in the mirror you will see that either one of your nose holes is bigger than the other or one of your eyes, what I am trying to say is that nobody is perfect, I don't get paid for this, I am just making it to help you guys.
Btw the line you drew is more to our left than in the center of the head, it should be drawn through the nose and mouth and you would see that the lines would match.

Uh, yeah, I know that. I'm saying the shading is sort of wonky. I can't tell where the light source is supposed to be. I like this picture better than anything else submitted so far, but there are still some things that need fixing before you slap it up on top of the site. _________________ Go Yankees! |

I fixed everything now, I hope you are satisfied without finding anything else to argue about. Noone will mess the logo that way that you do anyway.
But thanks for the constructive critics, they make me improve myself.

Agreed.

Face is better, shadows are still weird.
Edit: Now that I see it resized, there seems to be too much palette and not enough cat.
And do a sharpen filter after shrinking it. And shift it to the right just a tad?
Edit 2: The colors of the cat are too similar to the current site layout. It gets lost in the stripey banner so that the most visible thing becomes the palette, which is the least important thing in the picture. _________________ Go Yankees! |

I don't have much graphics software here. If you can make a better resize, please do so.

We'll need to look into doing a new header before this goes live beyond the forums. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

The palette is planned to overlay the top of the site and not to be shrinked too much.
However thank you guys I can't do any better because of time constrains of real life.
It was supposed to look like this, I just pushed the text a little up.

EDIT: With a new header it would look much better, I am glad you all like my design, thanks again. _________________

Gety, can you provide the original source image for this file? It will make modifications like moving the text much easier and higher quality.
PM me a link to it, or email it to support@fanart-central.net
Please compress before emailing if it's big. Will bounce if attachment is bigger than than 6-7MB. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

Yes. The psd file would be useful to have around for future modifications.
I wouldn't want to need to bug you for every trivial change over time.
I just put up a resized version of your latest one a few moments ago. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

You might need to rasterize the font layer.
It's a shame you won't be working on it anymore. It's a good picture, but after seeing it that small, there are some things that could be changed. _________________ "edit : i luv james" - Layzcarter |
