Ya...motion control and 3D gaming was pretty much the focal point of E3 2010.
The kinect (aka project NATAL) makes you look stupid, but got good reviews from the people who were allowed to try it out.
The PlayStation Move is an extremely precise motion controller that will have most past games and generally all future games integrated with Move capability. Thanks to the blue-ray format BOTH versions of the game will be featured on one disc.
And then theres the Wii...ya, its got that movement system...that doesnt read all that well...and the next 1000 games from them are guaranteed to feature mario, link, pokemon...or something else that came out 10+ years ago. Hurray for momentum! |

lol, regardless of one opinions, thats the direction its going in.... at least there will be 2 versions of the game. Not just one.
Personally, I wouldnt want to play FPS with a remote and nun-chuck-like controller.
Then again, ive never tried it. |

Aiming and shooting with the Wii remote is easier than using a typical game controller since the trigger location is similar to a gun, but it's only as precise as you can make it. And considering most gamers can't hold their arms out for long periods of time without shaking uncontrollably, well...
Then again, in that respect, it's no more accurate than a spastic joystick. _________________

Motion control has its uses, the issue is finding the right ones.
The Wii Remote for example. Games with good motion integration generally do only one of:
- Point and click functionality (great for shooters)
- Tilt sensitivity (great for racers)
- Waggle function
What the Wii Remote doesn't do well -- and everybody knows it after four years -- is actually capturing motion. For example, direction-specific waggles don't work. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

thats what makes the PS3 move so promising.
It tracks your exact motion and it follows your arm...and your character moves exactly the way you do. |

I was talking about this to a buddy today. Don't know what started the convo. But yeah, basically the other companies want a slice of nintendo's pie.
Thing is, they will both fail.
Chances are if you have a PS3 or a 360, you don't want a wii, or a motion controller. Then comes the price point, $150 for the kinect, $80-$160 for the Move (if you get set up with two full controllers & a camera). Tack those costs on to the cost of the console-
Kinect with the 360 bundles - $300 (you get a console without genitalia, aka 4 gigs of memory) -$400 (you get the full console with an actual hard drive, 250 gigs I believe) Both price points when bundled aren't too bad actually. But they don't appeal to the casual market. The bundles basically will save you $50.
I haven't seen the Move bundled with the console yet. But you can buy the controller in various stages, the wand, the dongle & the camera.
The perks. The Move is supposed to be the most precise, so when it comes down to it (based on what Sony says). It should be the best of the bunch, plain & simple. And it caters to more indepth and varied games.
As for the kinect, I think the voice recognition bit is cool. Being able to control a film with out a remote would be nifty. Especially on pizza night Another perk is you can use it to talk online without a headset. Nice. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't pay $150 for that.
Now to my knowledge the wii is still $200. All Nintendo has to do, come this holiday season, is drop it to $150. Boom, and the competition is toast.
Bottom line though, I do not think the PS3 owners, or 360 owners will bother with these. And neither of them have a flagship title to accompany them. So yeah, I think... and I kinda hope that they will flop.
Leave the motion control to Wii gamers. |

fit video gamers? i'm lazy, quit trying to make me excercise dammit!!!
The pie that everyone is trying to get a slice of is the WiiFit. That's what is making the Wii popular and personally i think both xbox and ps missed the mark
I'm glad that xbox announced that they will not release games specifically for kinect though, and their new games will be "kinect ready"... which means in the long run, xbox will still have better games _________________ "Pain is the only way to know you're still alive." ~ Elscol - Star Wars Rogue Squadron The Bacta War

I'd rather use a classic controller. PSP is nice. I can happily play with that, rather than all that swooshing about with your arms. I can't drive and I sure as hell didn't LIKE using the Wiimote when I had a Wii. That's what it felt like. Like when I was learning to drive one time. All that coordination... just couldn't cope. _________________ Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger! |
