It's supposedly in between, or after. It isn't clear on that, but it does have characters from the books playing the same roles they did in said book.
Only 2 of The Witcher books are out in America, they're written by a Polish author. They're excellent books, written amazingly.
edit: there is one Witcher game out now, and another is coming out soonish. I dunno when, exactly.
