Filters design discussion

In the current version of the site, changes made in the filter boxes apply only to page the user is currently on (current category, current user gallery, etc).

In the redesign, I'm wondering is this a good thing or not. Should a change to a filter box instead apply to the whole site for the user's current visit?

This change would probably have little impact on registered users who already have their profile filter preferences, but for guests it can made a big difference.

And feedback on this?

that was something I actually hated early on. I think changing it to apply to the whole site for the current visit is the ideal way to go.

I would also prefer it to be site-wide. Saves some session data that way.

Site wide also has the benefit of being useful for front page & profile where the mini galleries are.

And it means the filter boxes can be detached from the main galleries and put elseware in the user interface (they are already hidden by default, there is no reason the button to show them can't be in the header or something).

There is however the issue of how such a change should interact with filters other than ratings - media, sort, type (there are others like that which should also be added such as size perhaps, and for stories stuff like complete/incomplete and word count)

Lumping filters with sort options/etc. I would consider bad design. Sort order should be gallery specific. Media-specific options (story completion, picture media) should probably be gallery-specific too.
