Instead of smudging the hair, outline the lines of the hair and color them accordingly. That way, they'll be more defined.
The face has a strange, grainy texture. I'm not sure if you did that on purpose or not, but it's distracting. _________________ “Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” ~Theodore Roosevelt |

I try not to make them blurry, but again it's the program I have, and I'm not that good at digital art.
I sort of have no choice but to smudge the hair, it's the only option. I think it's okay for spikey hair.
What do you mean out line the hair? _________________ ___________________________________________________

Don't ever, ever use the smudge tool. It's a crutch right now and you're not going to improve with it. _________________ ゚ ヮ゚ |

Never heard of arcsoft.
Step 1: Try GIMP. It's free. It's the poor man's photoshop.
Step 2: Get a tablet. Use it.
Try outlining your drawings neatly before coloring. If GIMP doesn't have a vector tool, do this on paper with a pen or pencil. Block in each differently colored section using select tool + fill bucket on a multiply layer. Lock the transparency for that particular layer. Shade with brush.
Or just.. just get a tablet. _________________ Go Yankees!

I use smudge and its big brother liquify to shove my sketches around the screen until they look right. It's a lot faster than copying and pasting bits around or redrawing things. I don't think there are any tools that you should ever totally avoid using. It's just that most people rely on them too heavily and it can make you're drawing look really shitty if you do. _________________ Go Yankees! |

I know that, I use smudge too. It's just that I've made a habit of completely cutting out anything I'm relying too heavily on until I've been able to do without it.
SO MAYBE I should cut out the "never ever" bit. Just don't use smudge for a while plz. _________________ ゚ ヮ゚ |

It depends on the cost, whether or not I get a tablet. besides, I don't do alot of digital art anyway. It does look pretty Crappy compared to my other art.
I'll try GIMP out, if I can understand it. Or even find it for another matter. _________________ ___________________________________________________

You can get a basic tablet pretty darn cheap actually. Wacom makes a Bamboo for around 70 dollars if I remember right.
As for the pictures themselves you you aren't using line work then I'd suggest getting better as values. the mouth is the main area of concern for me, I get the impression that we're looking at the image through a unfocused lens of some sort. The clarity divers extremely from the eye to the rest of the image.
Just my thoughts though |

I am actually okay with people bumping old posts.
To be honest, I never understood why people get offended by that. IMMA TEMPORARY BOSS NOW
YOU BUMP THOSE OLD POSTS, GURL (I think you are a girl).
Sarah, if you made more digital artwork, I am interested to see what you changed/improved. _________________ “Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” ~Theodore Roosevelt |

HAhah, what you basically said was "I learned to improve myself through practice by practicing to practice." _________________ “Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” ~Theodore Roosevelt |
