I was so worried something had happened to this place, like, "This is the second time it's been down lately? There were no announcements?" and now we have a whole website revamp!!

The little zoom thing with the front page thumbnails is nice, and I guess the expanding/contracting subcategory listings could be useful. I was a little bit "wot?" that the Eldest subcategory is STILL under CS Lewis for reasons unknown, but ya know, that's small stuff. We've got an aesthetic overhaul to enjoy and the site is still alive yay it's still alive. Smile

(Also, if the Powers that Be gave us a new site format, does that mean they intend to take more of a hand in website affairs again?)

I guess the downtime was to update the server scripting, etc?

I had no involvement in this, it was all the webmaster's doing and he did not post any announcements anywhere to inform anyone this was happening soon.

Apparently this new update is supposed to make FAC more user-friendly towards mobile devices users, since the amount of displayed pictures is limited to eight in each row (24 pictures on display total).

The same layout must have become online standard, since it had been applied to Wikis and dA.

Man, I was never expecting an update to this site to happen seeing as its been somewhat unchanged for a long time. But I'm digging it. It's refreshing to see some aesthetic changes. Hopefully we'll get some kind of notice on everything that has been changed. I'm curious to know if there is anything more then the obvious and whats mentioned here.

It makes sense to me that the update might have been intended as mobile-friendly, TeeJay, since my profile and galleries look better if I shift my browser window to a smaller size.

Given that this site has largely remained untouched for a while, I never anticipated an update to take place. I like it, though. The adjustments in aesthetics are welcome. We can only hope that the changes will be made known to us in some way [size=1][url=https://thebackrooms.onl/][color=#BEBDC4]the backrooms[/color][/url][/size]

Some changes are welcome but on the other hand, lots of people don't like the new look of Deviantart.

There's some members who complained then the new look have a couple of glitches and some posted elsewhere like Thumblr, Twitter or even Newgrounds.

Those of my pen friends, who remain on dA, also complained about those issues.

I'm going to drop a "stealth announcement" here:

Due to the continuous presence of (presumed) spam account registrations, I've globally disabled bbCode on the forums. Several of them have been using SIZE and COLOR tags to hide content present in their posts -- my response has been (in addition to terminating the accounts) to disable bbCode on the individual posts for proof of what was submitted.

For example, some posts look fairly innucuous until you try to quote them and notice markup like [size=1][url=example.com] attached to end-of-post, perhaps in hope that nobody will notice.

Unfortunately, due to the age of this forum software we do not have fine-grain control over individual bbCode tags. They can't be wordcensored either (I've tried). They can only be "all on" or "all off".

So for now, I've toggled that global setting to OFF.

An extremely limited number of HTML tags are still enabled (we CAN control this on a per-tag basis), which should be enough for some basic text formatting and organization. But anything that would hide text (including hyperlinks!) is now disabled.

Yes, I'm sorry that this also includes bbCode in signatures.

About these (presumed) spam registrations, I don't know if it might work but I wonder if the addition of a "Captcha" system would be helpful?
