SO I'm a bit of a Pokemon Geek for the games, and the release of DP has me very excited. It's only one week from today and I can hardly wait! I'm still unsure of which version to get, and for the beginning pokemon I'm stumped as well. Usually I go for the fire type (as traditionall fire types are hard to obtain until later in the game where as water and grass as far more common), but the water starterr type is very tempting this time around. Aperently the final evolution of it is a Water/Steel cross type, which unless I'm mistaken is a previosly unheard of combo.

Whoo!

Anyone else excited?

Pokemon has gotten way too complicated since I played it. You had 2 choices, Red or Blue. None of this Gold/Fushia,Ruby stuff. Too many pokemons too many colors. I gave up. I really did like the game though. I got my red one when I was 11/12. How many different versions are there now?

Main games there are Red/Blue for the original (I don't count Yellow as it was made to be based off the show and done purely for profit), Silver/Gold for gen 2 Crystal shortly after with improved graphics and a slightly differing story line, Ruby/Saphire for gen 3 with Emerald a year or two later with improved graphicss and story line, Gen 4 comes out in a week with Diamond/Pearl. Then there's the multitude of other spin off games that were made based off them... Snap, XD, Pinball, The list goes on... but I disliked most of the spinoff games (with the exception of XD).

EDIT: Forgot to mention FireRed/LeafGreen, remakes of the original game (Red/Blue) that came out a few years age with greatly improved graphics

Oh Jesus. For starters I usually go for the one that appeals to me most (visually). In RB, it was Bulbasaur, in GSC it was Cyndaquil, and in RSE it was Torchic... XD; I don't usually give any thought to element types when I go for Pokemon. Just the ones that I happen to like the most. Happen to have pictures of the DP starters? I have to admit that I haven't been looking into them since I don't have a NDS.

Oh, but I do pay attention to genders. I never walk away with a male starter. :\

I've generally chosen my starters based on aesthetic preference, too. For me it was Charmander, Cyndaquil, and Treecko.

Somehow I managed to wind up picking whichever had the highest Speed....

Anyway, regarding another thread, I've lost most of my interest for Pokémon. I don't know why. I beat the original (Red version) completely, i.e. up through catching Mewtwo. I beat Gold version through the Elite Four and Kanto gym leaders, but I don't think I ever climbed Mt.Silver or fought against Ash. (Plus my game's battery eventually went dead, taking all those pokémon with it)

I played Crystal through . . . what was it, 4 or 5 Gym Leaders before losing interest and putting it on an indefinte haitus.

No love for getting Ruby or Sapphire. But I did hear that Emerald (plot-wise) was a combined version of both, so I got that and had a blast. For a while, at least. I'm up to the point where Magma is beaten and Aqua is about to awaken Kyogre, but I'm losing interest again.

FireRed . . . got about six badges in. It started out really boring, with all the extra tutorial & help features, and you didn't even get your running shoes until after defeating Brock.

I think it's the core plot of the Pokémon series themselves. Every generation it's the same three goals in the same order. 1: Get a Pokédex, and set out to catch 'em all, 2: Collect eight Pokémon League badges and ultimately become the Champ.

. . . Oh, and the distant third, save the world at some point.

Aww, Piplup is so cute! *__* But the fire one's final evolution looks pretty cool, 8V. I'd probably end up picking Piplup, though. Now if only I could teach it to tap dance...

I haven't used that site in ages, though I love that site too. ^^ REALLY useful stuff there.

Handhelds aren't region locked, so if you really can't wait for it to come out where you live, you can just import it and it should play fine. Razz

Looked most of the new DP Pokemon and I have to admit I'm a little disappointed with the designs. Not only are most of the new Pokemon simply (pre)evolutions of older Pokemon (I hope to God they stop with the Eevee thing soon) but most of them are rather bland-looking or flat-out ugly. :s

They're all really cute or really ugly. Where'd all the cool dragons go? DX;;

Overpopulated and bastardized to extinction during the 3rd generation.

Just picked up Pearl today X3 Choose Piplup as my starter, she's such a cutie. I have to say the graphics are very impressive when compared to the previous generation games. The maps are 3D and the in battle attacks are quite awesome. Music and sound effects are a lot better too. Pokemon cries no longer sound like computer blips (as much),

well, that's actuall a good thing considering Chimchards stage two evo is based on Golu (not the one from DBZ, but rather from the more traditional journey to the west).
