The other name of Mona Lisa is "La gioconda" and its called that way because the woman that leonardo painted was Lisa Gherardini, who was married with Francesco del Giocondo. Did you know that it was stolen in 1911?
Yeah... It was stolen and I think they actually put that in the Guinness Book of World Records. Totally strange. |

It's not. He painted the lady, hated it, carried it around forever and used himself as a reference. _________________ 222.
I also remember that only Americans called the Mona Lisa so. In all other countries, it is called by another name, which escapes me....
Nope. We call it Mona Lisa in Sweden.
One rumour says that the person modelling for the Mona Lisa was in fact Leonardo's male lover. I think it was my art history teacher who told me that... and my culture history teacher. _________________

Thanks so much for that wonderful insight...
Anywho, I saw in a magazine not to long ago (it was probably the Enquirer, which sucks, but that's not the point) that scientists had analyzed her smile into percentages of emotions. So much love, disgust, apathy, sorrow, and joy, or something like that. Too bad I can't find it now, I got a good laugh from it.
I think the appeal (aside from her smile) is how she appears to be stately and magnificient, but at the same time, normal and plain. |

Scientists are pretty sure they know why she is smiling. She is wearing a dress that women who either were expecting or nursing a baby wore, along with a veil that they didn't see until examining it with machines.
But com501, don't bump dead threads |

All i've heared was that the painting doesn't have a copyright on it anymore cause Da Vinci has been dead for over 50 years...
and her mouth is closed cause she had bad teeth, I seriously heard this i'm not joking |

The painting looks like it could have taken years to finish... _________________ Death isn't scary. Dying is the scary because you are not really sure whether to hold on to the strand of life or just to let yourself go free.

In America, this is called necromancing (bumping) old threads which is a big no-no in the forums. |

I was unaware I made a mistake. I read the first post and thought I'd reply with my knowledge on the subject. Sorry. |

I admire Leonardo
not just for his art work but for his engineering prowess.
I love his machine ideas. |
