Forums Move

Forums will be shutdown for a while tonight or early tomorrow while I move them to another server.

There's a thread buried somewhere in Site Discusions explaining how member titles relate to post counts.

Moving the forums to another server had to happen eventually. Good move as it will reduce the load on the main server, since the main server will have one less thing taking up its processing and bandwidth....

No more forum lag, yeah! (I'm curious... about how much FAC processing/bandwidth were the old forums using?)

The pane showing users viewing the current forum/thread has disappeared though.

And I can't seem to load more than two forum pages at a time (as IF that's even a problem... pages load slowly when you split your bandwidth more across more than two... I'll just get used to it ^_^)

I'm glad for the move. Especially since the lag was really bad before. Sad

Sometimes it'd take up to or over five minutes to load a page, and I'm on broadband. o_o;

Well you can't really complain. I mean, with over 30,000 members and a lost of them one the forums, of course it would lag. At least it's a lot better now.

Denis, can you set up an auto-redirect or something to refer all [u]www.fanart-central.net/forums/[/u] path links to [u]forums.fanart-central.net//[/u] path URL's? (Preferably if you can get it to redirect to the exact page, and not just the forums root index)

All and any time we gave out links to forum topics, those links come up broken now since the forums are moved. Sad

I turned off some stuff to lower processing load.

I dont have an easy way to fix the links, but the old URL already does redirect with a meta tag. Maybe it doesn't work in FF.

Hrm. Did you also turn off the black dots that indicate which threads we've already posted in? They don't show up for me anymore, and I feel lost at times. Sad

I think that was accidentally toggled off when the forums got moved. Try replying again and see if it comes back up, it does for me, but then my computer has this odd hard drive that records former files or something.

I've managed to get those working.

but, in the long term I dont think It'll matter anymore anyway Sad
