Short anime Fansub reviews.

In this thread I will review anime that is not commercially available in the US yet to give people an idea of what is to come in ~half a year or so.

Here is details regarding the "Other reviews ratings"
Animenfo has information on almost all anime series. They have user submitted ratings. Most anime gets something in the 8.x range. Anything under 8 is generally poor, anything over 9 is exceptional.

-------------------------------------------
Name: Ikkitousen
English name(s): Strength of a thousand
Studio: J.C.STAFF
I've seen: All (1-13)
Type: Fighting, Fanservice
Other reviews ratings: Animenfo 7.2

Very violent anime with lots of fanservice. There isn't really a lot more to say about this. Wouldn't suprise me if it was based on a fighting game. Plot is unimpressive, but fanservice is fanservice.

--------------------------------------------

Name: Kimi ga Nozomu Eien
English Name(s): The eternity you wish for
I've seen: All (1-14)
Type: Drama, Love Triangle
Other reviews/ratings: Animenfo 9.1. Rated #2 in the top 100.

This is a good drama series but for the most part not a very happy one. Based on a H game by the same name (though like most other series based of H games, it is not adult). Its best not to give any plot details on this one for spoiler purposes.

--------------------------------------------

Name: Moekan The Animation
I've seen: 1 of 3
Type: Drama, comedy

This series in concept is very much like Mahoromatic (reviews of it should be common enough). A drama series with some comedy about a robotic fighting maid and her master. Looks like it'll be pretty good. Too bad its the kinda OAV that will take several months per episode.

--------------------------------------------

Name: Jubei-chan 2 - The Revenge of Siberia Yagyuu
I've seen: All (1-13)
Type: Action, Drama, comedy, weird, magical girl?, historical
Other reviews/ratings: Animenfo 8.1

This is a new saga of Jubei-chan. If you liked the original you'll like this, if you didn't see the original, watch it first.

It is a weird combination of action drama and comedy, but the same director as kodocha. It's the kinda show that will occasionally reference itself as a show or do strange things for no real reason. Not sure how the dubbers will deal with that Russian character who occasionally talks in Russian in here, but like usual they will probably just make up something in English to put there....thats all the dubbers usually do anyway.

--------------------------------------------

Name: Kaleido Star
I've seen: 1-25 of 39
Type: Comedy, Drama, Athletic?
Other reviews/ratings: Animenfo 9.4
Studio: GONZO

Naekino Sora has since she was young wanted to be a performer on the acrobatic group "Kaleido Stage". Now 16 she has traveled to America to try to do it. She is determined and talented giving her the ability to do most things if she wants to.

This series is an enjoyable mix of comedy and drama. The animation is good, but not quite the fancy level of some other GONZO works like "Blue Submarine No. 6" and "LastEXILE".

-------------------------------------------

Name: Futatsu no Spica
English Name: Twin Spica
I've Seen: 1-9 of 20
Type: Drama
Other reviews/ratings: Animenfo 9.2

Any description of this would be spoilers for the first few eps, look it up on animenfo if you want one.

This series has a very old animation style but its plot is excellent.

Name: Mujin Wakusei Survive
English name(s): Uninhabited Planet SURVIVE
Studio: Madhouse
I've seen: 1-23 of unknown
Type: Adventure, scf-fi
Other reviews ratings: Animenfo 8.4

Lord of the flies in the 22nd century....Without society breaking down, maybe Its more like Swiss Family Robinson. A group of students on a fieldtrip get sucked into a wormhole or time warp or something and stranded on a planet. They must somehow survive on their own.

I like this series. It has a simple animation style, but the story is enjoyable and the characters likeable (well most of them, Howard is annoying). In some ways it reminds me of Digimon adventure, with a group of kids trying to survive on their own. But dont let that comparison stop you from watching it if you are a Digimon hater.

---------------------------------------------------

Name: Futari wa Pretty Cure / Futari wa Precure
English Name: Pair pretty cure?
Studio: Toei
I've seen: 1...dont plan to see any more.
Type: Generic magical girl
Other reviews ratings: Animenfo 5.8

This is the least original, creative, or interesting magical girl anime Ive seen (and I've seen a lot of anime). I dont expect a lot of creativity, originality, or maturity outta Toei which does almost exclusively kids anime, but still....

Card slash of Digimon tamers combined with magical girl transformations....

If you want an anime of this genre, there are plenty of better ones, go watch one of them.

It may have potential, but I have better anime to spend my time watching.

---------------------------------------------------

now for some Very new series (ones starting this month)

---------------------------------------------------

Name: Hanaukyo Maids La Verite
Studio: MOE
I've seen: 1
Type: Ecchi, comedy, harem

This is the second series of Hanaukyo Maids and from what I've seen its starting out exactly the same. I was hoping for a continuation, but got the same characters meeting for the first time. I was unimpressed with that, but it may be good if the plot is significantly different from the first series.

As for the plot, basically Taro inherits a mansion full of ecchi maids from his grandfather when his mom dies. He goes to live there, ecchi comedy ensues. Not the most complex plot, but I guess good for what it is.

---------------------------------------------------

Name: Midori no Hibi
I've seen: 1
Type: weird, Romantic Comedy
Other reviews ratings*: Animenfo 9.0

Sawamura Seiji, a high school student who loves to fight, wakes up one morning to find his hand replaced with a girl.

Confused? So was he. So was the girl. So am I. But, it looks like it has potential to be a good romantic comedy series.
